Details
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.76 [en] (X11; U; Linux 2.4.0-test12 i686)
BuildID: M18
This happens with Galeon, but we're (speak to marco in #Galeon@irc.gnome.org)
suspecting that it is a Mozilla/GTK embedding widget bug.
Using M18 with Galeon releases and CVS from the past couple of months.
When a window (blank; no page) is opened and closed (both via File>Close and via
window manager(key combo and "X"), the following error message appears in the
console:
Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_signal_disconnect_by_data(): could not find handler
containing data (0x8450DD0)
Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_signal_disconnect_by_data(): could not find handler
containing data (0x847F818)
Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_signal_disconnect_by_data(): could not find handler
containing data (0x848EF98)
Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_signal_disconnect_by_data(): could not find handler
containing data (0x843CF38)
Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_signal_disconnect_by_data(): could not find handler
containing data (0x842A360)
Gdk-WARNING **: GdkWindow 0x1e00205 unexpectedly destroyed
Nothing fatal, but when a window is opened and closed again, Galeon crashes with
this message:
Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_signal_disconnect_by_data(): could not find handler
containing data (0x8474768)
Gdk-ERROR **: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
serial 23021 error_code 3 request_code 15 minor_code 0
Unfortunately I have been unable to debug this properly.
Also I have not been able to test this with GtkMozEmbed. (Currently compiling
Mozilla CVS, hoping it might be fixed there)
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start Galeon, with Mozilla M18
2.Open a new window, close it
3.Open a new window, close it
Actual Results: Galeon (Mozilla embedding component?) crashes upon closing the
window in step 3.
Expected Results: Galeon (Mozilla embedding component?) should not crash.

Now using a December 15h source build (with gcc 2.95.2) of Mozilla with Galeon
CVS from the same day. Mozilla build options (.mozconfig) were the following:
ac_add_options --disable-tests
ac_add_options --disable-debug
ac_add_options --enable-strip-libs
ac_add_options --enable-cpp-rtti
ac_add_options --disable-mailnews
ac_add_options --enable-optimize
The errors on the Open Window/Close Window bug is of course less verbose now:
Gdk-WARNING **: GdkWindow 0x160021b unexpectedly destroyed
(after one window opened and closed)
Gdk-ERROR **: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
serial 14333 error_code 3 request_code 15 minor_code 0
(after the second window has been opened and closed)
So the error is still occurring.

Probably a dup of bug 62738 or one of its numerous related bugs. (crash when
closing a window)

Comment 3•25 years ago

I DO NOT think it is a duplicate, as I DO NOT get this with MOZILLA.

Comment 5•25 years ago

Let me reiterate: this ONLY happens with GtkMozEmbed, like when using Galeon. It
DOES occur when no home page/new window page is set -- read: no page has to be
loading for it to happen.

Can you try this with a daily build? This looks like it's just M18 and I think
it's a bug that I fixed.

I've been using milestones and nightly builds for a long time, and this bug has
never gone away.
Using 20001226 right now, same thing. Used -1214 around the 14th, same thing.
Any propisition how I should debug this?

Get out a debugger and get me a stack trace. :)

I don't know how to debug galeon... adding gdb before the galeon-bin execution
in "galeon", as such:
"exec gdb ./galeon-bin $@
else
exec gdb $dist_bin/galeon-bin $@"
results in the following gdb session:

Ah, strace works... I have a 1MB log here -- how should I sanitize the size?

Just compiled today's (20001230) Mozilla build, and Galeon against that -- I now
can open window, close window, open window, close window, without it crashing,
yippeee :)
Although after closing several windows I get warnings (but at least it doesn't
crash anymore) like these :
Gtk-WARNING **: invalid class type `(unknown)' in cast to `GtkCheckMenuItem'
Gtk-WARNING **: invalid cast from `(unknown)' to `GtkCheckMenuItem'
#Galeon peeps are saying it might be Galeon, though.

Yeah, those errors look like galeon to me. We don't use GtkCheckMenuItems
anywhere. If you think this is fixed then mark it so.

It seems like it is.
Was there anything in particular that you changed? I am marking this bug FIXED
now.

I fixed some focus problems. I don't know if that would affect it or not.
