lately i'm seeing the checkerboard background a lot more than i used to. a couple of scenarios lately that i've been surprised to see it: 1. scrolling back to the top of a page. i loaded a wikipedia page and read to the bottom. then i scrolled to the top - where everything was checkerboard and i had to wait for it to fill in. 2. when click on links. i click a link and the current page will go small, like i had zoomed way out, and then the target page will start loading.

I am seeing a flash of checkerboarding even when I am switching between two tabs that are blank (about:blank)
This is *really* bad now. I open any wikipedia page, for example, and horizontally scroll, and get immediate checkers. Go back and forth horizontally, and you get checkers, then up to a second pause waiting for tiles to fill back in. Why are we re-tiling what I was previously viewing (2 seconds ago), when there was no zoom change?

has either bug 629475 and bug 633986 helped.
Are they both in the latest nightly?
looks like it.
bug 624454 is about fixing the displayport, which controls the amount of checkerboarding. Horizontal is a different value than vertical.
