please change your nightly builds to use v8 instead of v8+ the v8+ keeps all of us with older SPARC hardware from using the nightly builds, where as v8 would allow us to do so. just as reference, i use superSPARC and HyperSPARC CPUs in SPARCstation 20 machines. thanks, -brian
Marking NEW. Seems like a decent enough proposal to me. But then again I dont use Solaris so what do i know :)

Summary: nightly builds should not use v8+ → [RFE] nightly builds should not use v8+
*** Bug 63761 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Brendan, can you review this change? It turns off the ultrasparc checks in configure by default so that builds made on ultrasparc can be used on other v8 class machines. If someone wants the ultrasparc opts used in js, they will need to specify --enable-ultrasparc. The other alternative is to flip the option and change the nightly builds to use --disable-ultrasparc.

cc jim for his input.
Adding Rick (sun), Rich is it cool to switch from v8+ to v8
Yep, it looks cool to me. Chris, thanks for doing this!
I'm ok with the change (cls needs no sr= from me, see http://www.mozilla.org/hacking/reviewers.html#exceptions) provided jdunn and Sun folks do exercise the compare-and-swap-optimized JS locking code, and enable that code in any commercial product builds that target the right hardware. /be
At the moment we have no plans to do and specially compiled versions of Netscape/Mozilla. We compile a generic version that will run (hopefully acceptably) on all Solaris machines. We do not have the QA resources or the support resources to test/maintain numerous different versions. Adding George to the CC; for his comments.
The patch has been checked in. Marking fixed.

Agree with Rich Burridge: Sun won't be making a V9-specific version of Netscape 6 for Solaris for now; if and when there is significant interest in such a version (or it's deemed strategic to Sun), we'll do it. This bug fix looks cool to me.
verified.
