Through my ISP, I have a NNTP account at Giganews via a server domain owned by my ISP. This account requires a login. I set Thunderbird to save the user ID and password.

If there is a failure to connect because of a downstream problem (i.e., not something in my PC or Internet connection), Thunderbird deletes the user ID and password. Furthermore, if I attempt to login and re-enter the ID and password -- checking the boxes to remember them -- they are not saved if the connection problem still exists.

Reproducible: Always
After the first failed attempt to connect to the NNTP server, subsequent failed attempts result in an error popup that says: "A new (NNTP) error occurred: Aborted by user" I did nothing to abort the attempt.
Aarrggh!!

It says: "A news (NNTP) error occurred: Aborted by user"

The second word should be "news", not "new".
Looks like we never implemented bug 121647 for newsgroups.

Joshua do you think you could work on this for the sake of protocol parity ?
It's either this bug, or perhaps I should dupe this (or both?) to bug 314495... Or bug 314495 to 437930, the latter of which has the better info?
