This problem happens when a logon to a Thunderbird account fails.

I previously hit this problem about two months ago. Then, after the logon failure was repaired, I again entered my user ID and password and had them saved. I confirmed that they were saved by going to the Thunderbird menubar and selecting [Tools > Options] and then selecting the Save Passwords button on the Passwords tab.

Today, an attempt to logon to my Thunderbird account for the news.vcnet.com newsgroup server failed with the Thunderbird error popup:
"A News (NNTP) error occurred: No response from proxy for @vcnet.com auth servers". When I retried the logon, Thunderbird requested by user ID and password. Checking my saved passwords, I found the entry for this account had been deleted.

Reproducible: Always
My ISP fixed their authentication server, and I was again able to save my user ID and password for news.vcnet.com. I have verified that the user ID and password remain saved.

However, that does not resolve this bug report. This particular authentication server fails 2-3 times a year. Each time it fails, the user ID and password for news.vcnet.com are erased from Password Manager for Thunderbird.
ludo, mark, isn't this consistent with the way pwd management is intended to work? and if so, this is a server issue.
dupe of bug 632827?
Yeah, I think David's filed this twice by accident. It certainly looks the same as bug 632827.

See the comment I just put in bug 632827.
