Drawing of the Firefox window contents (both page and menus, tab opening animation) are very slow on my computer. It is a laptop with an external screen plugged in.

This happens on the secondary display (the one that does not contain the task bar). This sometimes happens on both displays.

Disabling hardware acceleration ("Options"/"Advanced"/Tab: "General") works around the problem. Starting Firefox in safe mode also works around the problem. Creating a new profile does not.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open firefox.
2. Move the window to the secondary screen.
3. Open a webside (e.g. lemonde.fr)
4. Scroll down.
Actual Results:
Refresh is very slow.

Expected Results:
Scrolling is instant.
Hmm, another Report mentioning HW/Layers Accel. doing bad Stuff on Dual Monitor Setup.

niol, can you try to get Driver Update via Intel or the PC Vendor and test if the Issue persists?

Updating the driver using the Intel website to the latest version which is 6.14.10.5313 (11-11-2010) does not fix the problem.

I have the same issue on Windows XP with an "Intel HD Graphics (Core i5)" with the Firefox 4 release build and an even newer Intel driver. The difference in scrolling, switching tabs, etc. once even a few pixels of the Ffx window intrude on the second screen is extremely noticeable (you can see the "scan-line" descend on the screen), and if I switch which monitor is primary the problem swaps with it.

I'm disabling hw acceleration for now, but I'm willing to run tests if anyone needs more data.

Just confirming the issue still presents itself in the current Aurora build:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:6.0a2) Gecko/20110616 Firefox/6.0a2

I have the same "Intel HD Graphics" driver as in my last comment, since Intel has issued no updates for WinXP in the last 3 months.
Still present running :
- Firefox/7.0 beta from a few days ago
- Intel HD graphics driver 6.14.10.5374
I don't know the situation with windows drivers. Bas can you take a look?
I am also still experiencing this w/ Firefox 10.0.1 on Windows XP. Works fine on my main display, but very slow/choppy to render basic functions on my external/secondary display. I'm using a Thinkpad T410 w/ Core i5 and Intel HD Graphics v6.14.10.5355.

Disabling Hardware Acceleration fixes it for me.
Still experiencing this with Firefox 11.0 on Windows XP.

Using
Thinkpad T410
Core I5
Intel HD Graphics.

What is very interesting is that when I run the IE Tab plus add in (which allows to open pages in FF in a tab that uses the IE engine) the problem does not occour.

Same problem on FF 14.0.1 and Windows 7 SP1 64-bit Dell Latitude E6410. My external display is a new "DisplayLink plugable USB 2.0 Docking Station". When I disable hardware acceleration in FF the problem goes away.
Same problem with FF 18.0.1 on Windows XP SP3 and Ivy Bridge Intel HD 2500 Series.
Second monitor is connected via DisplayPort.
Same problem with FF 18.0.2 on WINDOWS XP Pro SP3, Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M, driver 189.92. Mouse slows to a jerky crawl when the browser is moved from main display to external secondary display. Slowness goes away if all dialogs are placed back on primary display.
I'm having this problem with FF-build38.0.0 for w7x64. it makes the browser frustrating to use because of slow lag time to repaint the screen. Intel HD Card 8815 on an Acer Aspire laptop 4349.
