There is a display issue with the split menus, where you end up with two of them highlighted/active simultaneously. It looks really weird, and is different to how these types of menus normally work.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to Minefield button
2. Hover over a split menu option (eg Options) until it expands out
3. Move mouse over to another menu or split menu (eg Help)
4. Until the new split menu expands, both menu options are highlighted
Actual Results:
Both menu options are highlighted
Expected Results:
Only the new menu the mouse is over should be highlighted. The old one should not be highlighted, although the expanded sub menu can remain open until closed after the usual delay (~1 sec or whatever it is).
Have a look at the split menu options in the "View" menu of windows file explorer (this is in Vista, other windows may be the same). The split/sub menus act kind of like you'd expect. Same with the menus in IE.

I know of another bug (which I cna't find at the moment) which shows the same behavior for the normal menu. How quick do you hover over the different submenus?

It only happens if you hover over a split menu item long enough for it to expand. You can then get the double highlighting on any other (normal or split) menu option after that, until the old split menu closes after a delay.

Yep, it's a duplicate. The problem manifests itself a little differently now that bug 633656 landed.
