User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Firefox/3.6.15
Build Identifier: Firefox 4.0b12 (File version 2.0.0.4070

User entered http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=previsor in address bar and the browser did not respond. Waited 5 minutes, but saw no indication of a slow process, only a hard hang. Same URL works fine in FireFox 3.6.15 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Firefox/3.6.15)

Reproducible: Always
(Filed bug using FF 3.6.15, thus the User-Agent show THIS version instead of the target version.)
Summary: Browser hangs when doing Goggle search for 'previsor' (URL above) → Browser hangs when doing Google search for 'previsor' (URL above)
Do you happen to have the addon "McAfee Site Advisor" installed?

Could you try running Firefox 4 in safe mode please:
http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode

If that works, disable addons one at a time (start with the McAfee addon, if you have it), restarting Firefox 4 after each time for the changes to take effect (but no longer using safe mode), in order to narrow down which addon is causing the problem.

Problem traced to use of add-on "McAfee Site Advisor 3.3". Reported issue occurs when the add-on is enabled and does not occur when the add-on is disabled. User took dump file via Win 7 task manager. (Available on request.)

(Good sleuthing, Ed!)
Thanks for the update. McAfee strikes again!

McAfee are apparently working on a fixed version of the addon; see bug 637542 for the blocklisting of the broken versions.

Marking bug as invalid, since a bug in the addon rather than Firefox.

Reopening since now in the McAfee section, so something for them to sort out.

Went through the issue using the following builds/versions:
- latest Nightly build available here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2013-03-10-03-09-06-mozilla-central/
- McAfee SiteAdvisor 3.6.0.187
- Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x86

Used the link that has been posted above with the latest version of Nightly & McAfee SiteAdvisor without any issues. Tried this several times and everything worked without any issues. Used Google to search some other terms without any problems either.

Lisa, can you reproduce the original issue using the latest version of Nightly & McAfee SiteAdvisor?
