Extend "mail.enable_automatic_image_resizing = true" from "fit to width" to "fit to width and height".
Because currently in most cases I can only see half of the picture (due to the picture's height).

No duplicate found, thus confirming. It's certainly easier to adjust to the width of the window than the height, given that the message view is scrolling, but should be possible to figure that out and restrict the size.

Haven't tested, but I believe this is only about inline previews of images attached as a file; bug 534083 covers images that are embedded into HTML.

Recently my Thunderbird has become almost useless as most images on e-mails appear as a broken gray page. I read it might be due to messages composed using Word/Outlook, but that response is useless if my mail becomes only partially functional.
I would hate to switch to Outlook, but currently I have to open the e-mail contents using "display as a web page" to see what I am getting.

If this comment is tied to the wrong ehtry, I would appreciate if you could please re-direct it so that I can follow the resolution of this *serious* problem.

P.S.- My version is 17.0.8 on Windows XP

   I just fixed my problem. Instructions I had read was to make sure that "No Proxy"
is selected. However, doing just the opposite (Use System Proxy) started displaying
the images.

Ernesto, your problem is (or was) not related to the topic of this bug, which is resizing of attached images to the available screen size. Please file a new bug if you have a new issue to report (it is not possible to split of comments from one bug into another one). Thanks.

If this gets implemented, please let users choose between "fit to width" and "fit to width and height", because not all users would agree what the best behaviour is here.
