The Linux crash doesn't involve application update at all. There are also stacks for crash reporter during its initialization and other consumers of PR_Read https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/777e0e6a-f732-418c-8828-580672110515 Highly suspect this is not app update specific especially now that app update in Firefox 4 uses essentially the same API's as crash reporter and others.

https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/list?signature=PR_Read%20|%20IsPending showed up on the explosive report today. Two of the comments mention Freecorder 5 Toolbar.

It looks like the issue with freecorder causing a crash in PR_Read which app update uses has more recent work in bug 1205987 so duping.
