From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.76 [en] (X11; U; SunOS 5.8 sun4u)
BuildID: 2000123121
Mozilla failed to give a warning dialogue when a file to be downloaded was
unavailable.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to URL given above.
2. Follow the link "gz-compressed Postscript" in the bulletted list
at the top of the page.
3. Ask for the document to be saved to disc.
Actual Results: Mozilla creates the local copy of the file, but puts nothing in
it. After ~3s, mozilla says "Document done" and quotes a download time of ~3s.
Local copy of the file ends up with zero bytes.
Expected Results: As per Netscape 4.x, the browser should post dialogue saying
that the file is unavailable.
dup of bug 25014 "Inaccessible file/directory not handled"
(by way of dup bug 37367 "Need error message when ftp directory or file does not

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/2002080820
I tried "save link target as on a broken ftp-link. I got a save as dialog. No
file was saved and no error displayed, though. Therefore, confirming and
adjusting Platform/OS.

I'm seeing this bug also in 1.1b (B ID 2002101612) on Win98
This really, really sucks. I sometimes get the message:
C:\windows\temp\<some filename> could not be saved because the source files
could not be read. Tray again later or contact the server's administrator [OK]
Hope this will be fixed soon. I have to use IE now YUCK!!!
I get the same thing every time I try to download or save something with Mozilla
1.2 beta. I have to open IE to download anything I need to have on my computer.
Wish I could describe things more that that.

I just installed mozilla 1.2 build 2002101612, and the first thing I tried to do
with it was download a 2.4 MB file. On some attempts I got no response (no error
message but no file, either), on others I got the following error message:
C:\TEMP\wvfs4vzj.EXE could not be saved, because the source file could not be
read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator.
(The error message window's title line read "Downloading C:\TEMP\wvfs4vzj.EXE")
The file I was downloading was named something completely different, but I won't
repeat it here. The status bar at the bottom of the mozilla window correctly
identified the target file and its url.
This file is in a protected directory requiring a username and password (I had
no difficulties logging in through mozilla), in case that makes a difference. I
haven't tried downloading any non-protected files in this build.
Explorer (my backup browser when Mozilla's not working for me) was able to
download the file with no difficulties.
I'm using Windows NT.

I see this problem with Netscape 7.1 on Windows XP Pro at least once a week.
Once it has happened, I can't "save as" any files, either from the browser, or
for attachments in mail (IMAP). I've found that reinstalling fixes it.
I've seen this once with Netscape 7.1 on Windows 2000 SP2.

When I try to download any file, download can stop before end of file for some
reason, but there is no error message and file status is "Complete" in download
manager. It is very pity, becuase I must switch to another download managers.

I see this problem on the MAC (OX X, 10.3, 10.4) all the time. When I download
large files I get an EOF sometimes with an error popup and sometimes not, but
the download manager thinks I have the whole file. If I switch to Safari I get
the whole file every time.
This has been bothering me for a year or so on the mac. I am not sure if it's
the same bug as filed, because I have never ever seen this on my Windows XP box.
And this bug was filed in 2003 but it's 2005 now!

Please-test this with SeaMonkey 2.0 Beta 1 or later and reopen if it still happens.
