This trivial patch disables texture_from_pixmap, which indeed restores normal (but slow) behavior. Not asking to land this for now, if there is good hope that we can fix this. Also, the issue doesn't seem to exist on all machines. Mine is a debian Squeeze, x86-64, NVIDIA 196.36.31.
