To ensure that individuals providing information in the DLL directory are trustworthy (e.g. not malware vendors), we would like to authenticate them against Bugzilla and specifically the "edit bugs" permission. This should be possible through the Bugzilla API, but research must be done.
Summary: Conduct research into using Bugzilla API for DLL Directory auth → Prototype using Bugzilla API for DLL Directory auth
Narrowing users by group and group id is part of Bugzilla 4.0; once the upgrade is completed, we'll be able to complete this prototype and fully test it.
Depends on: bmo-upgrade
Do you mean the Bugzilla built-in API, or BzAPI? I don't know a way to use either to do external auth... How exactly do you plan to do this technically?

Gerv
It has been decided that, rather than using XML-RPC to authenticate users with Bugzilla accounts, we will use LDAP for this purpose. Resolving as invalid.
