I'm running W98 SE spanish edition, apache 1.3.14 win32 r2, php-4.0.4-Win32,
mysql-3.23.30-gamma-win & IE 5.0. When I start Netscape 6 or Mozilla 0.7 it
won't runs until I finish the apache service.
If I stop the apache service it runs normally, then I restart the service and
all goes ok. But if I try to run the browser when the service is started
mozilla hangs (no window or error message).
My machine is an hp e-pc p3 800 with 128 mb ram with the following extra
software: norton antivirus 2000 and hp internet keys.

Maybe this is a memory issue; your machine can't run Mozilla while running these
other additional applications?

reply to Håkan B. Waara
Mozilla only runs when Apache service is stopped. I tried to stop all the
programs and run Mozilla, but if the Apache service is running, Mozilla won't
run.

I've had this problem too, and I narrowed it down to the PHP module for Apache.
Since I'm not using that machine as a production server, I switched to the
klugey CGI method of calling PHP, and have had no problems since.

My guess is that the problem is due to a hung invisible window which prevents
DDE from initializing. When I have the problem and I log off I get a warning
that the invisible window has stopped responding. If I then end that task
Mozilla starts.
I agree with kelson : this is related to the php module. when running apache
with php as cgi, no problems.
it may be related to msvcrt.dll, cause php needs 'its' version of this file...
please try running mozilla using depends.exe http://www.dependencywalker.com/
I gather this is a 9x only issue?

I attached the results from Dependencywalker on a hung, invisible Mozilla
(Mozilla 0.8 Win32 installer on Windows ME cohabitating with Apache 1.3.17). For
me there is nothing unusual there. A least Mozilla and Apache used the same
msvcrt.dll file in c:\windows\system
Generally I see this problem if I run Apache for some hours (that is never on a
freshly rebooted PC, always on the second day without a reboot). That may
explain why some people do not see this; a testcase that nedds several hours is
not a good testcase :-(

I see this all the time on my win98se machine.
When apache + php as a module is running, I can't run mozilla.
When I stop Apache, I can run mozilla. (I can restart apache afterwards, even
if moz is running...)

I have seen this on my Windows 98, and Me machines. It doesn't matter how much
memory(resources) are left, it runs only when Apache isn't, but Apache and
Mozilla will continue to run normally if I start Apache AFTER I see the Mozilla
splash screen. This is just opening the browser to the home page.

Hello, I have this same problem. Win98 (US), Apache/1.3.14 (Win32) PHP/4.0.4pl1.
If apache is loaded beforehand, then mozilla won't even show its roaring
dinosaur picture. Lands itself on the ctrl-alt-delete menu, and trying to kill
it there means waiting about 5 seconds since it has "stopped responding."
I'm using March 23rd, 2001 daily (2001031604).
Removing this line from apache .conf file fixes everything, well, except I sorta
liked PHP: "LoadModule php4_module c:/php/sapi/php4apache.dll"
Hope no-one minded the redundancy,
Julius

I have the same problem here: Win98SE, Apache 1.3.19/php 4.0.4 (both win32 and
also with earlier versions); all Mozilla builds I know (NS6, Moz 0.7/0.8,
Nightly Build 01-18-01).
Something additional: When using the current Textpad version (www.textpad.com)
you've got a "Textpad" entry in the shell context menus for files. If you click
it the same thing as with Mozilla happens: Textpad does not load until you
stop/restart Apache. Maybe some shared thing? :-/
I really need this to be fixed!

Modifying the summary to be a tad more specific by including the PHP bit.

I have the same problem. If I comment out the PHP Apache interface module and
restart, Mozilla (0.81 or daily build) starts right up!. It continues to work if
I use the PHP CGI interface under Apache. I can load 1/2 dozen other Apache
mods or unload them with the same result. Mozilla will not start with the PHP
Apache interface module loaded and running.
My configuration is:
Win98SE (US verserion) w/256MB RAM & 256MB Virtual
Mozilla Daily or 0.81
Apache 1.3.19
PHP 4.04SP1
I can reproduce this with virtually nothing running.

Neat: I have apache/php going, and I try to load mozilla. Nothing really
happens. 5 hours later I turn off apache/php, and immediately mozilla finishes
loading! As if it had been waiting in line all that time.

It's obviously clear that there are a good number of us who use Apache/PHP on
Windows to as a test development platform for our web applications, whether for
our jobs or for our personal web sites (like me).
However, this bug is assigned to Asa, and he's not a developer, and this bug
needs to be assigned to a developer who can bring the proper attention to this
bug. I personally do not know who this should be assigned to or where to find a
proper list of developers. The sooner this is assigned the better.

first of all, relnote issue. timeless: did the dependencywalker info help you
in anyways to see what the issue is? I have no idea where to send this, build
config is doubtfull.

Jacek Piskozub your DWI didn't include profile information, which means you
missed/skipped a step :( before quiting dependency walker you need to profile
mozilla (f7, or profile>start profiling).

Maybe better as I am now sure my problem is not this bug, after all ;-)

I get similar behaviour with 0.8.1 on NT4/SP6. Mozilla.exe just doesnt run. I
have Apache+PHP installed but only run them as normal programs (not services)
and they arent running during the above

marking duplicate of bug 53952. This has all the hallmarks of being blocked by
badly behaving DDE stuff.
