I am using Photoshop CS5 (older versions of Photoshop have this bug too, and "Google Chrome" doesn't have this problem, which results me in using chrome just to get around the bug) Bug remains even after doing a clean install of the browser Story: This bug has been present since firefox 3, a quick google search for "cant drag images into Photoshop from firefox" reveals the severity of the problem results. I am surprised that no one has reported this issue in SUCH A LONG TIME or expressed how frustrating the bug is. Almost all of the designers that I know who use a Mac complain about this issue, including myself. Reporter -> Is this a duplicate of one of the bugs listed in comment 1, in your opinion?

I don't think so, I have no problem dragging images into mail.app, this is a specific problem on a Mac OS X with Photoshop only.

Are you still experiencing this issue with the latest version of Firefox 4? Does the issue occur with the latest nightly? http://nightly.mozilla.org/

Yes I am experiencing this issue with the latest version of Firefox 4. I also tested a nightly build 7.0a1, the same issue persists

Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 x32 (latest), although I am sure the same problem will occur on any version.

Is this still an issue with Firefox 11 and the latest Photoshop?

Yes, the bug is still there (and has always been). Photoshop still throws the error "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." when trying to drag and drop an image from the browser to the Photoshop dock icon. Nightly 17.0a1 (2012-08-03) Photoshop CS6 Only "simple" workaround for designers is to use the "Open With Photoshop" add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/open-with-photoshop/ - but that's not a real solution.

Here's a screen recording I just made to demonstrate the problem: http://cl.ly/3u2I2s1h353x The first part of the video shows Safari (working), and second part shows Firefox (throwing errors). Here's the URL of the test page I made: http://maxart.s3.amazonaws.com/public/Firefox-image-drag-and-drop/index.html Once again, this bug isn't specific to a particular version of Firefox or Photoshop. Drag and dropping an image from Firefox to Photoshop just never worked - while it works without issues with Chrome and Safari for instance.

I've confirmed that this is a real issue. I'm guessing we're dragging a URL rather than the image.

Is this just a Photoshop issue? Dragging images from Firefox rarely (never?) works in macOS; it usually just drops a URL. E.g. try dragging an image into a Keynote presentation and you’ll get a text box with a URL in Firefox, and an image with Safari and Chrome.

Dragging images from one place in Firefox to another has recently been fixed in bug #1437126, but it remains an issue when the image leaves Firefox to another app.

This is still happening, and not just with Photoshop, but Preview.
Blows my mind a simple operation like dragging and dropping an image has been broken for over a decade...

Hi, Emilio. Please update the title of this issue or move the latest comment to a separate new bug. Other users are still experiencing this too, e.g. https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1ipcfqs/ .

Yeah this is likely a separate issue. Since this bug has a lot of now-irrelevant comments, and according to comment 16 this repros in Preview (which should allow most relevant folks to repro, fingers crossed, not on a mac right now), let's move the discussion to bug 1948388.
