The main purpose of having a google calendar is to share it, so entry of local calendar items (via invitations) is pretty silly, IMO. It's not made clear what the limititation is exactly, but it seems as if there aught to be a way to work around it if it is not a plug-in specific issue. Please elaborate or point me at the ticket or issue that is the source of the trouble. Reproducible: Always

Seems the same as Bug Bug 544217 that was resolved as duplicate of Bug 384308. More information on the problem is e.g. in Bug 407961 or Bug 510069. As mentioned in the GData Provider homepage/FAQ you can enable invitation feature by switching a preference if you take the risk. Or you can test using the built-in CalDAV provider instead of GData provider.
