Hi Jason. This is a follow up from your comment from bug 651005. We met with the creatives team to discuss a few options. We definitely think that the comments you provided are very important and we'd like to continue the conversation here and get your recommendations on how to best proceed.

Your comments:
....
One way to implement this would be to do something like the dynamic mozilla.com
landing page, where the user is taken to mozilla.com/firefox/fx if they are an
existing Firefox user. In this case, when the user navigates to
mozilla.com/channel, they are taken to either mozilla.com/firefox/channel/ or
mozilla.com/mobile/channel based on their user agent. So we would technically
have two pages, but the user would only be shown the one most likely to be
relevant to them. Another advantage of this is that If the user is interested
in specifically viewing the channels for desktop, they can type in that url or
click the link in the "all devices" blurb to be taken to desktop....

Will set up some time with you so we can hash out the details and then update this bug. but wanted to give everyone a heads up that this will be coming soon. as soon as we finalize on a plan how to best proceed.

thanks

Attached image channel for mobile
hi jason,

just a follow up from our meeting, we need to create a mobile version of the /firefox/channel page

* make sure we can detect the device they are using
* here is the first version of /firefox/channel redesign
https://bug653291.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=529824

* for the mobile version, let's keep the mobile column look from the /firefox/channel desktop page (see attachment)
* i still want to have a call out for desktop but maybe it can be a small button at the bottom of the page. it can be a similar look as this page: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/m/ but instead of favorite features they can be desktop channel button
hope that helps. let me know if you have any additional questions
The attachment looks good. Will we be putting a final release button or link for mobile below the desktop?
Grace - I think the newsletter form will work on here. Would it be acceptable to have it be an expandable section, so that in the beginning, just "Get the Latest Channel News" is visible, but when clicked, the form slides down?

hi jason. that would be great! thanks!
hi jason,

do need to review a new template that includes the expandable section? let me know if you have any additional questions?

thanks!
Here is the first draft of the wireframes:

http://people.mozilla.com/~jgrlicky/drop/mozcom/mobile_mockups/rapid_release/mobile_channel_wireframe_v1.png

Along with a mockup for how the expanded newsletter signup could work:

I'd love to hear your feedback! Thanks ^_^

- this looks good.

a few things:
- do you think we can shorten the rapid release blog feed? maybe just show 1 or 2 articles and a few rss feeds? in the current wireframe, it takes quite a big space.
- can we update the text to say Future Release Blog rather than rapid release

other than that it looks good.
Thanks for the quick reply! I can definitely do those things, and have updated the mockups accordingly:

http://people.mozilla.com/~jgrlicky/drop/mozcom/mobile_mockups/rapid_release/mobile_channel_expanded_wireframe_v1.png

(You might have to hit "Reload" when looking at the image to see the changes)

FYI, I stole the "Rapid Release Blog" text from what I believe is the latest mockup on bug 653291:

https://bug653291.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=530523

...so you might want to mention that over there if we want the copy to be consistent. Good catch, though!

Are we ready to roll to hi-fi mockups?
this looks good.
yup. updated the other bug re: rapid release vs future release blog.

good to go here.
Hey Guys - I'm a bit worried on time here since we don't have high rez mockups yet and code freeze for 2.5 is Monday. Plus we should have plenty of time to QA this page.

Jason - any ETA on when final mockups will be ready? At that point the dev work can get started.

What does the "desktop" tab do?
Below is the first version of the hi-fi mockup for this page:

http://people.mozilla.com/~jgrlicky/drop/mozcom/mobile_mockups/rapid_release/mobile_channels_v1.png

Laura: I think we can get final revisions done for this today by lunchtime, depending on the feedback. Do you think that will be enough time? I'm still working on the hi-fi mockups for the "Desktop" tab and the expanded "Get the latest channel news" section. I'll post those as I finish them.

James: my intention for the "Desktop" tab was to have it reveal the other two columns of https://bug653291.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=530523 when clicked - the Aurora and Desktop Beta channels, one on top of each other, so the user can get info about the desktop channels if they want. In retrospect, this doesn't make as much sense as I'd originally thought, so it might be better to just putting a link to "Future Releases for Desktop" somewhere on the page :P. Thoughts?

- jason, fine with link. i dont think they will be downloading from their phone anyway. if it redirect to full site I think that's fine. it's more of a promo for desktop. thanks!
Here is the updated mockup with just the link:

http://people.mozilla.com/~jgrlicky/drop/mozcom/mobile_mockups/rapid_release/mobile_channels_v2.png

Along with the expanded newsletter sign-up form:

Let me know what you think, and if everything looks good, then we're ready for implementation!

yay! thanks james! just a heads up. link to android market is tbd. will update with final link asap. thanks
I've implemented most of this page. There are a few CSS things to fix, but it's generally done.

The most glaring style errors are on the newsletter button. I'll fix those first thing tomorrow.
