it would be nice to use signatures like http://myhost/somepath/sig.txt for
signature. 

it is useful when using several machines to access one mail account and replying
from different locations. you would only need to edit one signature.
yeah, that could be kind of cool. But there's also some problems. If fx the 
network isn't connected, etc...

Besides non-regular file sigs it would be nice if Unix fifos worked as signature
files.  Signify has this feature: it pipes the signatures (one per request)
throught ~/.signature.  Mozilla doesn't know how to handle this.

Want to ask if there a plans to implement the requested feature in Thunderbird 2.x or 3.x? 

The same semantic as the addition of an plugin/extension can be used, means: I i want to add an extension i can (beside using a local file) put an http url into the file open dialog to specify the extension location. This could be used for sigantures too. Beside supporting the http(s) protocol an remote siganture should be accessible at least via FTP/Webdav. IMHO remote signatures can/should be part of roaming profile support.
