We'd like to get Mozilla.com's SEO up to snuff. One of the first steps to do that is to update specific page elements to make them more relevant and helpful. These page elements (things like page title and meta description) haven't been touched in years.

See more details in the project Wiki: https://intranet.mozilla.org/Engagement/Websites/SEO#2011_Q2

This bug is to implement the changes we make to the Page Titles, Meta Description and H1/H2/H3 tags.

We're currently in the process of making those changes here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AlGDfFgIIbD9dFVuX2h5aU1KeTlBV1N4Ti01Y1RqR2c&hl=en&authkey=CK21lfQG#gid=0

Once we're done I'll transition this to webdev for their review and to implement.

Hey Steven - Can SilverOrange take a look at this since Anthony is on vacation? This is heading down the line pretty soon, depending on when Bug 657386 is complete.

Sure, let me know when it's ready for implementation.
Ready for implementation!

I'm not clear on what is to be done with these H1, H2, H3 tags. These are page of the page content and can't be edited without actually changing the visible page contents.

All pages with the standard header also use H1 for the "Mozilla Firefox" title image in the top left.
Also want to confirm that the spreadsheet uses the same text for the Page Title and Meta Desc on the /new/ and /fx/ pages. These pages have an existing desc tag:

"Mozilla Firefox is created by a global non-profit dedicated to putting individuals in control and shaping the future of the web for the public good."
Question the third: on the Videos page, would you like us to use the video description (under the thumbnail/title) as the Meta Description when a video is selected?
Question the 4th: The spreadsheet includes a row for:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/?browse=featured
but not one for:
/en-US/mobile/customize/

The addons.mozilla.org page will have to be a separate bug for AMO. Do you have something for /en-US/mobile/customize/?
We'll also need to file a separate bug to change the blog page title.
The sub-sections of the Careers page aren't actually separate pages with distinct page titles.

The http://hire.jobvite.com/CompanyJobs/Careers.aspx?k=JobListing&c=qpX9Vfwa&v=1 page will need a separate bug.

Aside from these issues and the open questions in the comments above, I've committed the rest to trunk in r90219. Will finish up when the pending questions are addressed.

Yes, that would be great!

Leave that out for now and we can tackle later. The scope of these changes should just be www.mozilla.com.
Videos descriptions are now used in the meta tag as of r90276 in trunk.

Still need clarification on the questions in comments #4, #5, & #7. to wrap up.

Steven,

These H1 - H3 need to be updated in the copy on the page. If you want/need a separate bug, LMK.

Steven,

This is a really great catch, can you update to read:

"Mozilla Firefox, free web browser, is created by a global non-profit dedicated to putting individuals in control & shaping the future of the web for the public good."

Ah! So, /en-US/mobile/customize/ goes to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/?browse=featured - I will open a separate bug for the AMO team.

THANKS!

Please do file a new bug for that - it's a bit more extensive and could be done separately.
The /new/, /fx/, and related pages have been updated in r90440.
Merged to stage in r90441.
