We would like to send an email to the add-on developer base to let them know of the launch of the Builder BETA and the Add-on SDK on June 22nd.
Objectives are:
1. To educate add-on developers of the new tools by extolling their benefits, and linking to the two new product overview videos being produced for the product page.
2. Link to the add-on builder and SDK so add-on developers can get stared
3. Provide links to documentation and support.
Design:
The add-on developer template is looking a little tired, so I would like to spruce up with the design elements being considered for the product page: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=646431, including:
1. The Add-on development character
2. The Add-on icon
3. Thumbnails of the intro video within the body.
Suggested copy to follow shortly.

Hey Dan, I'll need to know the following:
* What does the current add-on dev email template look like?
* Are you looking for a custom design just for this announcement? or is this a template redesign? ideally it would be the former.
* I think we can use the existing mozilla&you template and adapt it to this. sounds good?
* What is my deadline to hand over designs?
* Am cc-ing Matej to give the copy a quick look over and approve once you post.
* Lee, would love your help in cranking this out since you've been doing the related work

Hey Dan, what's our deadline on this?
Comment 5•15 years ago

Hey Dan, if you need this for next week ( I thought I saw that you're releasing builder on the 21st) then please let me know asap as no work has begun. Lee has been pretty busy with other things that needed his attention.... and I'll need to make sure we've got someone on this to hit your deadline. Please let me know what the design deadline is for this asap. Thanks !

Especially if you also need copy review from Matej.

Hey Dan. Friendly ping here. If this is intended to go live early next week... I'll definitely need you to post the copy for it asap so Matej can review and Lee can massage it into the template.
The template will echo our current "mozilla and you" design style, but branded with AMO and probably slimmed down since it doesn't seem like you guys have as much content per issue. Does that sound good to you? Please advise if that's not the case.
Also, unless you give me another deadline here for design, we'll have this delivered to you by end of week - pending copy updates from you, of course.

I think we can also follow this template: http://www.intothefuzz.com/rhonda/Join_email_template/join_mozilla_email.jpg
It was made to echo the mozilla & you template, but formatted for less/more-featured content.
PSD can be found here: http://www.intothefuzz.com/rhonda/Join_email_template/join_mozilla_email.psd

Hey Tara
Winston has already created the HTML for this email using the banner created for the blog (see attached). I'd like to use the content from the product page - will paste shortly.

Here's the copy - slightly amended from the product page:
http://etherpad.mozilla.com:9000/eVABzYZepH
Main CTA is to visit the product page, where we can educate (with page content and videos) and link to the SDK and Builder.
Tara / Matej - if you approve, I can add this straight into the email ready for sending.
Thanks

A couple of tiny tweaks to the etherpad, otherwise looks great to me!

Hey Dan. Thanks for the update. I wish you had shared that a little earlier... I'm not sure what the reasons were behind the current design. It's "ok", but I think it can (and should) be much better.
I'd like Lee to create this if you don't mind. It'll be more inline with the template we've used in the past, and ideally something a little more visually compelling.

I took a quick pass at this, starting from Rhonda's Join Mozilla email. Because this came from the Join campaign, we may want to consider a different header (FF Add-ons and tagline)
From a lean-mean email perspective, Winston - Let me know if there are any design elements you've been trying to avoid in emails. From the looks of the mockup in comment 9, we're going really minimal. I don't want to completely strip emails of our style, but I'm sure we can find the happy medium. Thanks!

Looks good to me, Thanks Lee :)
My main suggestion / though is that if this is an email to announce Builder/SDK, those two product names don't really stand out. So, that's the only thing I'd suggest tweaking. Otherwise, pending feedback from Dan, Winston, or others.. this works.

Thanks Lee - looks awesome. Can you supply the psd here too?
@Tara - I'll change the subtitle from "Create great Firefox Add-ons quickly and easily" to:
Create great Add-ons with the Add-on Builder (beta) and Add-on SDK
@Winston - You'd already created the previous version of this email in HTML. However would this be quick to load into responsys? If so, can we get ready for sending on Tuesday?
Thanks

One concern here for me:
- I don't think we should be using League Gothic for the "Add-ons" title. If we can't put Meta Black Add-ons as on the site, perhaps fall back to Georgia as we often do on moz.com?
Comment 18•15 years ago
|
||
Either that or instead of it being live text, we could put "Add-ons" in Meta Black as an image.

Isn't that the same font we've used elsewhere? I thought it looked a little off, but thought that's what we had chosen as the font before. I just want to make sure we're using the same font everywhere :) But, agree.

Agreed on the Add-ons title. I'll make the update.

I think it's going to be tough to get this sliced by the 21st. We have html that's close for the join campaign. Maybe Laura has a resource that can adapt it quickly.
Having said that - I can adapt the current Join template and make it close. I'll just need the main image sliced to 548 x 310. I'm not sure I can get the footer to match up precisely... but I can come close.

Hey - here's the code i have for the join template.
Plan A - have web dev or silver orange slice what Lee has provided us. They can probably use this as a base to get it wrapped up faster. Dan - it's important that you reach out to Laura Forrest asap and see what they can do. I'd file a web dev bug and assign it to Laura with a high priority. Not sure how much they have on their plate with Fx5.
Plan B - if it's not possible to have it sliced, I can try to adjust the attached template to work.
Comment 23•15 years ago
|
||
Thanks Winston. I'm not entirely clear on what Plan B would look like, but would rather avoid that.
Dan, I would rather move forward with Lee's work vs. hacking something into place last minute. Anytime that we spend time doing work that's ultimately not used, I'm not happy :) I'm not sure of the details needed to push this through... but am assuming you're handling all that. Could you please be sure to follow up with Laura Forrest asap and file the appropriate bugs so we can get this done for your launch day? cc-ing Laura here so this bug is on her radar, but you should definitely follow up with her. Thanks.

Just to stay consistent with how we've been referring to these products elsewhere, please use this:
Create great Add-ons with Add-on Builder (beta) and the Add-on SDK

Here are a couple of mockups with collected revisions:
http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Addons/JPG/AMO_SDK_email_02.jpg
http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Addons/JPG/AMO_SDK_email_03.jpg
- ADD-ONS email header in MetaBlack
- the messaging in the hero promo and then in the subhead/body seemed redundant to me, so I'm proposing
http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Addons/JPG/AMO_SDK_email_03.jpg as an option. This helps emphasize the product in the hero, and provides a clear initial read.
Let me know your thoughts. Dan, if everyone is on-board,I can link you to PSD asap
