See bug 36358 and bug 53462. Many regular nightly testers have
- no use for the test apps and the decompressed jars (especially since they can
easily regenerate the latter)
- bzip2 installed, which provides far better compression than gz

Please provide a linux tarball download with only the distribution files (as
defines by the packages-* files and bzip2 compressed.

Implementation should be something like
cd xpinstall/packager; MOZ_PKG_FORMAT=BZ2 make dist
I think this is actually a dup of a bug from several months ago that leaf has,
but I don't recall the # offhand and don't have time to look into it.  but we
talked about creating a tarball based on the packages-* files, but got sucked
into the whole NS6 pr3/RTM maze.

not a dup. this bug asks for bz2, the other one for zip. Also, this bug has
already a build target, you just have to use it.

It looks like this bug has been forgotten about. As Ben mentions, there is a
build target for this already, so this one should be easy to fix. Does it just
need to be hooked up with the nightly build jobs?

I do. I think that installers and Unix don't fit, so the tarball should be
polished for end-users / admins.

I think this bug was fixed quite a while ago (or is there something I'm not understanding about this?)

We're using bzip2 on the trunk nightlies now, but not 1.8.0 or 1.8 (1.8.0 will not be changed, we may or may not for 1.8). We are no longer generating Linux installer builds either.

We want talkback in the regular nightly builds, however there will be non-branded builds (without talkback) once bug 337524 is resolved.
