ReleasE: Netscape 6.0A release on solaris platform ( dated 01/24/2001) Build tag: -r Netscape_6_0_OEM_BRANCH -D"01/19/2001 10:00:00" Package: SVR4 pkg. 1) Remove .mozilla 2) Invoke netscape_debug script. Look at the terminal window. It throws an error "failed to migrate properly. error -<err. code>" Netscape does launch , but Bookmark/History/Proxy Settings/Mail Pref. nothing is migrated. This was working with Netscape 6.0 FCS version of Solaris. (Occurs with pkgs on both platforms - sparc and intel).
If you remove your ~/.netscape directory and re-start Mozilla/N6, does it launch okay? If so, there's a workaround until migration can be fixed.
I don't agree with you on this.. The whole point of this bug was that user's preferences are not getting migrated Removing .netscape, is telling user not to use his existing pref. But re-enter them with the new invokation. If we do not remove .netscape, browser still comes up, but none of the preferences show up. If we remove .netscape, browser will come up, with no pref. set (as there is none). I don't think removing .netscape is a workaround.
Raju: it sounds as if you're saying that migration is actually working *less* well than a few weeks ago. Can you confirm that? If so, then this is a regression and we should treat it as such.
Could not reproduce it with Solaris builds of Netscape_6_0_OEM_BRANCH from sources dated Jan 19 and fresh one. No error happened and profile seems migrated ok - bookmarks, proxies are fine, mail preferences seems also ok. Please, provide more details if you are still able to reproduce this. Specify error code you saw, attach you netscape 4.x profile.
I was rlogged in onto the machine and had set my DISPLAY to my local machine display. Say local machine is 'host1' Say machine under test is 'host2' Login onto 'host1' Remove .mozilla Remove .netscape. Invoke NS4.x and just update manual proxies field. This step will ensure u have a new .netscape and some preferences, a bookmark and a history file Rlogin onto host2. setenv DISPLAY host1:0.0 cd <netscape install dir.> ./netscape_debug YOu would see the profile migration problem. (see attchmt above).
i tried netscape_debug from xpinstaller-sparc0130d.zip and could not reproduce the problem (following you scenario) on both Solaris 2.8 and 2.7 (however, no required patches were installed) proxy settings migrated fine for me. Also, error code from your log is UNEXPECTED_ERROR from FILE subsytem. Could it be failure to create temporary file/directory? Could you reproduce same problem on other (Solaris) systems?
Could you try it on a x86 machine. I'm not the only one who has seen this problem (updating CC list). Geetha, Can u update this bug with your finding. Meanwhile I will try it on another sparc and let you know.
I was rlogged onto all the machines below 1) On a sparc 2.7 - Migration FAILED. (SunOS rampriya 5.7 Generic_106541-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10 ) 2) On a sparc 2.8 - Migration PASSED (SunOS litedist2 5.8 Generic_108528-05 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-1) 3) On a intel 2.7 - Migration FAILED (SunOS doelab-04 5.7 Generic_106542-12 i86pc i386 i86pc) 4) On an intel 2.8 - Migration FAILED (SunOS zambezi 5.8 Generic_108529-05 i86pc i386 i86pc) It could be a problem with the patch versions installed. We have seen atleast one another problem on using a newer version of the patch versus an older version of the patch. Wondering if that has got to do anything with it.
Could not reproduce it with Win32 build from April 6 (WinNT 4.0 SP4). Could not reproduce it with Linux build from April 6.(RedHat 6.2) Profile migrated properly.
I cannot reproduce this bug on Solaris 2.7 and 2.8 too. I believe it's a problem with patch versions. I wonder if anyone who can reproduce it can check it against installed the patch versions.
I could not reproduce it in my machine--Sun Blade 100, (SunOS skating 5.9 s81_51 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-100) The migration of profile for proxies is OK. But the history is not right, see bug 66755.
mass re-assign.
