I suggest adding the feature of changing currently used search engine by hovering it's favicon in the search bar and scrolling mouse wheel up/down.
There also might be a pref added that would make the scroll wrap around the ends of the list (e.g. when you reach the bottom of the list and you scroll down once more, then the first entry of this list gets chosen).

This behavior wouldn't do any harm, since now the scrolling over favicon does nothing.
And the profit of this feature would be a 2 saved clicks every time you change the search engine.

Dao, could you please tell me why was the whole patch from bug 346079 reverted? why not modify it as it was suggested:

>> Perhaps this would apply only to the engine icon itself.
> I think that would be better, imho. It still allows for easy changing

I suggest not to ignore that idea. Those, who for some reasons can't control their mouse's scroll - won't get annoyed, as favicon is pretty small, so it's harder to accidentally hover it + use mouse scroll, but it would be a nice feature for those, who do these actions on purpose.

Regarding said above, I hope you don't mind that I change this bug's status back to "unconfirmed".
Firefox was always awesome for such the small, but damn useful features.

Summary: Hover and mouse-scroll the search bar's button to change the search engine → Hover and mouse-scroll search engine's favicon to change it
I think bug 410603 should be backed out and this bug should be implemented, but once again: scrolling should do nothing if the search field is hovered.

Profit: you neither need 2 hands to change the search engine, nor you need to do any clicks.

Dao, please, take the profit into consideration.

This feature could make for a better user experience, but it is not a bug, it's an enhancement request. Changing the search engines works fine now. This implementation would simply be an improvement.

Using mousewheel (along with ctrl or cmd) to change the engine is fairly undiscoverable, limiting it further to just the icon would make it even more undiscoverable. I don't really see us changing this, so setting as wontfix.
