The Wolof language team has completed translation for Aurora 7.0, with technical help from Dwayne Baileys and his team at translate.org.za. We are currently reviewing our translations, and would like to be candidate to enter Aurora 8 official build. My name is Dominique Rochefort I am the contact person for the Wolof team at ANAFA, Dakar, Sénégal. Our website is: http://www.alfanet.anafa.org/ Our address is: Association nationale pour l'alphabétisation et la formation des Adultes (ANAFA) Villa 17bis, Patte d'Oie Builders Nord Ext., B.P. 10453 DAKAR-LIBERTÉ Dakar, Sénégal We are translating using POOTLE (http://pootle.locamotion.org/) with the help of ANLOC / Translate.org.za.
These are the l10n sources for Wolof (wo). They are at 8.0a2 but the translations are still 7.0 (with some minor updates). The updates to 8.0 are small and I expect these to happen shortly. I just wanted to get these up for review so that we can get Wolof into VC and building. The 7.0 contains the bulk of the strings and is at 76% complete in total and 93% if we exclude the security, less important components and items that shouldn't be translated.
Attachment #558409 - Flags: review?(l10n)
I have used English fallback, we probably should be using French fallback. Am looking at instrumenting that in the building process.
Definitively, French fallback for untranslated strings would be more appropriate since the majority of Wolof speakers which live in Senegal knows some French and almost no English at all. Also, for more technical string, it would be more useful to have them in French so that technicians in Senegal better understand what it means. We target 100% translation before Saturday (other, never, notnd and security excepted). In parallel we are testing the interface, and reviewing the strings, Dominique
The 8.0a2 Wolof language pack is currently broken on Aurora 8. Until we find the offending strings, please just uninstall your Aurora 8, and delete the "Program Files/Aurora" directory. Then perform a fresh Aurora8 install from the web : http://www.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/channel/ You should then be able to use Aurora in French or English again, but don't try to install the wolof until we fix this bug. Thanks, Dominique
Please fin here a working language pack for now : http://download.locamotion.org/aurora8/firefox-8.0a2.wo.langpack.xpi Thanks Dwayne. We continue the review.
Comment on attachment 558409 [details] Firefox 8.0a2 translation (based on 7.0) I'm seeing both scope and technical issues here: with the current fallback to en-US, I see a coverage of 65% in my metrics. Given that you want to head over to fr for fallback, that concerns me, as I'll never get traction on how "wolof" this localization is. I'm open for suggestions on how to overcome this? Technically, the current hg version of compare-locales finds 8 errors, see wo browser/chrome/browser aboutHome.dtd ERROR: mismatched tag at line 19, column 118 within abouthome.defaultSnippet2.v1 aboutPrivateBrowsing.dtd WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `toolsMenu.label` (basePBMenu.label, privateBrowsingCmd.start.label known) at line 20, column 0 within privatebrowsingpage.howToStart2 WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `toolsMenu.label` (basePBMenu.label, brandShortName, privateBrowsingCmd.stop.label known) at line 19, column 0 within privatebrowsingpage.howToStop2 baseMenuOverlay.dtd WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `brandFullName` (brandShortName known) at line 12, column 0 within aboutProduct.label browser.dtd WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `syncBrand.fullName.label` (syncBrand.shortName.label known) at line 556, column 0 within syncSetup.label -backForwardButtonMenu.tooltip -backForwardButtonMenuMac.tooltip -searchFocus.commandkey2 browser.properties ERROR: argument 2 `S` obsolete at line 81, column 28 within lwthemeNeedsRestart.message ERROR: Found single % at line 332, column 38 within telemetryText feeds/subscribe.properties WARNING: trailing argument 2 `S` missing at line 2, column 11 within addHandler preferences colors.dtd ERROR: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 19, column 2 within links main.dtd -restoreOnDemand.accesskey -restoreOnDemand.label preferences.properties +differentAccount.label +differentAccountConfirm.label +stopUsingAccount.title -syncUnlink.label -syncUnlink.title -syncUnlinkConfirm.label sync.dtd +changePassword.label -changePassword2.label +deactivateDevice.label +resetSync.label -resetSync2.label -unlinkDevice.label scratchpad.dtd +textbox.placeholder1 tabview.properties +tabview.groupItem.newTabButton -tabview.notification.sessionStore dom/chrome dom/dom.properties -nsIDOMWindowInternalWarning -nsIJSONDecodeDeprecatedWarning -nsIJSONEncodeDeprecatedWarning netError.dtd ERROR: mismatched tag at line 63, column 430 within proxyConnectFailure.longDesc services/sync/sync.properties WARNING: trailing argument 1 `S` missing at line 5, column 18 within lastSync2.label toolkit/chrome global aboutRights.dtd WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `nbsp` (blockAttackSites.label, blockWebForgeries.label known) at line 59, column 0 within rights.safebrowsing-term3 aboutSupport.dtd ERROR: mismatched tag at line 6, column 73 within aboutSupport.pageSubtitle -aboutSupport.appBasicsCrashIDs aboutSupport.properties -adapterDescription2 -adapterDeviceID2 -adapterDrivers2 -adapterRAM2 -adapterVendorID2 -driverDate2 -driverVersion2 -isGPU2Active mozilla.dtd WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `nbsp` at line 2, column 0 within mozilla.quote mozapps downloads/unknownContentType.properties -fileSizeWithType extensions newaddon.dtd // remove this file newaddon.properties // remove this file selectAddons.dtd // remove this file selectAddons.properties // remove this file plugins/plugins.properties WARNING: trailing argument 1 `S` missing at line 23, column 33 within pluginInstallation.restart.label profile/profileSelection.properties ERROR: argument 3 `S` obsolete at line 3, column 23 within restartMessageUnlocker update updates.dtd WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `nbsp` (brandShortName known) at line 18, column 0 within manualUpdateGetMsg.label updates.properties ERROR: argument 2 `S` obsolete, argument 3 `S` obsolete at line 19, column 21 within incompatAddons_minor wo: errors: 8 warnings: 10 keys: 1017 unchanged: 1905 changed: 3652 obsolete: 25 missing: 8 65% of entries changed

Thanks Axel for the error report, I will go through it and fix all the errors. About French fallback, I think we could like without it in the immediate. I'll let Dwayne come back for any suggestion to help you keep track of progress even with French fallback. Dominique

The team has about 22% unchanged strings on Pootle plus the untranslated in security, never and notnb would seem to align with you figures. The team has been reviewing their strings and removing any direct copies (to make the French fallback possible) which might have pushed down their translated figures. These files have also been updated quite a bit since the upload for review. > Given that you want to head over to fr for fallback, that concerns me, as > I'll never get traction on how "wolof" this localization is. I'm open for > suggestions on how to overcome this? Some suggestions: 1) In the PO files we'll have the best indication as the teams won't be copying any English across if they don't have a Wolof translation, since the idea is to use the untranslated status to drop in French. Means reading this on Pootle. 2) Giving translation figures on commits that want approval 3) Committing two sets of Wolof files: Wolof+English and Wolof+French. Measure against the first and use the second. > Technically, the current hg version of compare-locales finds 8 errors, see > > wo > browser/chrome/browser > aboutHome.dtd > ERROR: mismatched tag at line 19, column 118 within > abouthome.defaultSnippet2.v1 > aboutPrivateBrowsing.dtd > WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `toolsMenu.label` > (basePBMenu.label, privateBrowsingCmd.start.label known) at line 20, column > 0 within privatebrowsingpage.howToStart2 > WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `toolsMenu.label` > (basePBMenu.label, brandShortName, privateBrowsingCmd.stop.label known) at > line 19, column 0 within privatebrowsingpage.howToStop2 > baseMenuOverlay.dtd > WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `brandFullName` (brandShortName > known) at line 12, column 0 within aboutProduct.label > browser.dtd > WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `syncBrand.fullName.label` > (syncBrand.shortName.label known) at line 556, column 0 within > syncSetup.label > -backForwardButtonMenu.tooltip > -backForwardButtonMenuMac.tooltip > -searchFocus.commandkey2 > browser.properties > ERROR: argument 2 `S` obsolete at line 81, column 28 within > lwthemeNeedsRestart.message > ERROR: Found single % at line 332, column 38 within telemetryText > feeds/subscribe.properties > WARNING: trailing argument 2 `S` missing at line 2, column 11 within > addHandler > preferences > colors.dtd > ERROR: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 19, column 2 within > links > main.dtd > -restoreOnDemand.accesskey > -restoreOnDemand.label > preferences.properties > +differentAccount.label > +differentAccountConfirm.label > +stopUsingAccount.title > -syncUnlink.label > -syncUnlink.title > -syncUnlinkConfirm.label > sync.dtd > +changePassword.label > -changePassword2.label > +deactivateDevice.label > +resetSync.label > -resetSync2.label > -unlinkDevice.label > scratchpad.dtd > +textbox.placeholder1 > tabview.properties > +tabview.groupItem.newTabButton > -tabview.notification.sessionStore > dom/chrome > dom/dom.properties > -nsIDOMWindowInternalWarning > -nsIJSONDecodeDeprecatedWarning > -nsIJSONEncodeDeprecatedWarning > netError.dtd > ERROR: mismatched tag at line 63, column 430 within > proxyConnectFailure.longDesc > services/sync/sync.properties > WARNING: trailing argument 1 `S` missing at line 5, column 18 within > lastSync2.label > toolkit/chrome > global > aboutRights.dtd > WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `nbsp` > (blockAttackSites.label, blockWebForgeries.label known) at line 59, column 0 > within rights.safebrowsing-term3 > aboutSupport.dtd > ERROR: mismatched tag at line 6, column 73 within > aboutSupport.pageSubtitle > -aboutSupport.appBasicsCrashIDs > aboutSupport.properties > -adapterDescription2 > -adapterDeviceID2 > -adapterDrivers2 > -adapterRAM2 > -adapterVendorID2 > -driverDate2 > -driverVersion2 > -isGPU2Active > mozilla.dtd > WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `nbsp` at line 2, column 0 > within mozilla.quote > mozapps > downloads/unknownContentType.properties > -fileSizeWithType > extensions > newaddon.dtd > // remove this file > newaddon.properties > // remove this file > selectAddons.dtd > // remove this file > selectAddons.properties > // remove this file > plugins/plugins.properties > WARNING: trailing argument 1 `S` missing at line 23, column 33 > within pluginInstallation.restart.label > profile/profileSelection.properties > ERROR: argument 3 `S` obsolete at line 3, column 23 within > restartMessageUnlocker > update > updates.dtd > WARNING: Referencing unknown entity `nbsp` (brandShortName > known) at line 18, column 0 within manualUpdateGetMsg.label > updates.properties > ERROR: argument 2 `S` obsolete, argument 3 `S` obsolete at line > 19, column 21 within incompatAddons_minor > wo: > errors: 8 > warnings: 10 > keys: 1017 > unchanged: 1905 > changed: 3652 > obsolete: 25 > missing: 8 > 65% of entries changed A lot of these have been corrected in Pootle. I'll review Dominiques corrections and upload a new tarball.
I believe I have now fixed all the above critical errors in the Wolof localization. We are now at 100%, except the following sections in POOTLE: never, notnb, other & security. We are continuing the review, on both tech and language issues. But I think most of the current localization could be considered stable. That is, we should be ready before this weekend to try again entering the build. Dominique

These are the latest translations from Pootle. All previous compare-locales errors have been fixed. Changed units sits at 61%.

How does this bug related to bug 661060? (In reply to Axel Hecht [:Pike] from comment #6) > with the current fallback to en-US, I see a coverage of 65% in my metrics. > Given that you want to head over to fr for fallback, that concerns me, as > I'll never get traction on how "wolof" this localization is. Bug 661060 is duplicate of this bug. This bug is the official Wolof l10n bug. Dominique
Summary: wo / Wolof → [wo] Reactivated localization: Wolof
Summary: [wo] Reactivated localization: Wolof → [wo] [Fx] Reactivated localization: Wolof
We have been working hard the last two weeks to review and test our translation, and fix l10n errors and warnings. We know that Aurora 8 closing date is planned for September 27, and would like to do everything required so that we can get into it as an official Aurora 8 localization. We have not had feedback from Firefox quality check for 15 days now, and our translation greatly improved since then. We know our localization is not fully complete yet, but still our testing shows us that Aurora is now fully usable in Wolof. Do we still have the opportunity to get in on time? Thanks, Dominique

Comment on attachment 560326 [details] Firefox 8.0a2 translations (updated to 8.0) Hi there, sorry for the long lag in response. I'll give this an r+. I have some nits below, but I'm really on the border with the translation coverage. We should make a good step there before going to beta. In browser/searchplugin/list.txt, there's no twitter. Is that intentional or should we add that, now that en-US is shipping with it? In intl.properties, general.useragent.locale should be wo. Is the pluralForm the right one? intl.accept_languages should mention wo as preferred language, and probably other popular languages in Senegal, in particular, I'd expect French to come before English. Also, should en-GB be preferred English, or en-US? The rest looks technically good, I'll file more bugs on the release process in a few. Again, sorry for the lag in response.
