application/pdf part of attached mail to this bug was a part under multipart/mixed. Never dup of bug 674473(for part under multipart/related). Re-opening. Sorry for misunderstanding mail structure and spam. To bug opeer: What phenomenon upon what operation do you call "not showing any pdf attachments" in your next comment? > Actual results: > it is not showing any pdf attachments,

This thing is driving me crazy. My bank sent me a password protected pdf and the email shows no attachment icon. I was mad at them and they wanted me to forward the email and I did. They gave me a screen shot in their outlook which shows an attachment. Also, if I tried opening an attchment (pdf password protected) it simply doesnt do anything and the attachment icon is gone from that email. Help....

(In reply to DaveM from comment #8) > and the attachment icon is gone from that email. Help.... Bug opener says his problem occurs with mail attached to this bug. The attached mail is multipart/mixed mail, and IIRC Tb always shows attachment icon if multipart/mixed. The attached mail has application/pdf part under multipart/mixed correctly. So, attachment icon will never be gone when mail is viewed. DaveM, you could reproduce problem reported to comment #0 with the attached mail? (1) Save attached mail to .eml file (2) Create a mail folder under "Local Folders". (say ABC) (3) Drag&Drop the .eml file to thread pane of folder ABC. Please note that external symptom of "pdf attachments not shown" is not always same problem. This bug is for problem of comment #0 which is produced by the attached mail. Your problem is really same as bug opener's problem? Have you read bug which I wrongly dup'ed to once? View mail source and check mail structure of mail on which your problem occurs.

I did what (WADA) said. There was no attachment icon in the folder ABC. My problem is with password protected pdf files. They are not there in the mail as attachments and the sender claims it is there. The same sender sends this attachments every month on the 4th. The July 4th mail had the attachment but not the Aug 4th or the Sep 4th. I dont know when TB got updated. Now if I go back to the old ones and double click the attachment vanishes. Oh God Mozilla, help me...

This bug is never for generic "pdf attachment is not shown" phenomena.
Please don't hi-jack bug report for different problem from your problem.
DaveM, here is bugzilla.mozilla.org(B.M.O), not support forum. If you can't check whether your problem is same as already pointed bug or not by yourself, please ask help at appropriate place such as support forum for Thunderbird.

Isnt this a bug in TB? Why is this happening in TB 6 not before?
Comment 14•13 years ago

(In reply to DaveM from comment #13) > Isnt this a bug in TB? Why is this happening in TB 6 not before? What is the "this"? This bug(Bug 680357) is for phenonenon of comment #0 & comment #1 which occurs on mail attached to this bug by comment #3. As written in comment #6 by Joe Sabash, problem couldn't be reproduced with Tb 9.0a1(Tb trunk nightly). So, I also did duplication test with Tb 6.0 by next procedure, (1) Save attached mail to .eml file (2) Create a mail folder under "Local Folders". (say ABC) (3) Drag&Drop the .eml file to thread pane of folder ABC, and, I also couldn't reproduce problem reported to this bug. Attachment icon is always shown at thread pane, pdf attachment is always shown at attachment pane unless attachment pane is intensionally hidden by user, and attached pdf file can be opened and viewed by Adobe Reader. And, attached mail was multipart/mixed mail, then it was found "this bug can't be dup of a known bug". Bug 674473 is for next: non-diplayed part under multipart/related is; Tb 3 or older : shown as if attachment at attachment pane, but not detachable, not deletable Tb 5, 6 : not shown as attachment any more Tb 8 or later : shown as attachment by new "All Body Parts" mode, but the new mode is not so suitable for daily use by general user who receives malformed mail daily So, if you see Bug 674473, phenomena involves "doesn't not occur in Tb 3, occurs in Tb 5, 6". DaveM, please read thru already pointed Bug 674473 and all bugs dupe'd to that bug, and check mail structure which produces your problem by your self.

(In reply to Anto Vincent from comment #15) > I'm getting the same problem with the attached mail also, not only pdf for > some mails that generated from any applications (log file, reports) Can you see attachment(s) at attachment pane by next with Tb? (1) Compose a mail (any of text or html) by Tb (2) Attach some files via File/Attach/Files... (3) Send Later (4) Move generated mail in Outbox of "Local Folders" to a mail folder under "Local Folders"(say ABC) (5) Disable View/Display Attachments Inline (6) Open folder named ABC (7) Click the mail => mail is shown at message pane (8) At context menu of the mail at thread pane, Open Message in New Window => mail is shown at stand alone window. Keep sufficient window height. (9) If attachments are invisible at both step 7 and step 8, (9-1) Restart Tb with -safe-mode, (thunderbird.exe -safe-mode if Win) (9-2) Tools/Add-On/Apperance, select Default 6.0, restart Tb (9-3) Do step 7 & step 8. Attachments are still not shown at attachment pane?

I looked at the incoming mail with the password protected pdf attached. There is no icon showing there is an attachment. I viewed the source. Here is the part from the source which seems to show that there is a pdf attachment: e intended recipient, please notify us immediately and remove the message e= ntirely from your system. ***</font></td></tr></table></HTML> ------=_Part_15234_722762.1309822838094 Content-Type: application/pdf; name=XXXXXXXXXX7904.pdf Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=XXXXXXXXXX7904.pdf JVBERi0xLjQKJeLjz9MKMSAwIG9iago8PC9UeXBlL1hPYmplY3QvQ29sb3JTcGFjZS9EZXZpY2VH cm

Is there a fix coming soon for the attachment icon not showing and no attachment showing on existing emails?

(In reply to DaveM from comment #18) > Is there a fix coming soon for the attachment icon not showing and no > attachment showing on existing emails? Based on the attachment on this bug, it's already fixed in trunk (possibly in earlier versions as well).

Unfortunately, this may not be true. I installed the latest version (6) and the problem occurred in that. I had saved version 5, and I installed it again and the problem went away (the icons and attachments showed). Basically, the problem is password protected pdfs will disappear from older mails on double clicking the attachment and pdf will not open and the icon and attachment will disappear. Incoming emails with password protected pdf will not show a icon or attachment if sent from "non-Thunderbird" clients. I had tried disabling all addons to no avail. The only workaround is to install older versions (v5).

yes it still does not show certain secure pdf attachments. I use the addon "show all body parts" by Jonathan Kamens. Shows the attahcments.
