The favicon of a new empty tab is a dashed rectangle. In panorama it uses favicon of other unrelated sites. It picks one and uses it for weeks (through FF restarts). Sometimes it decides to pick another one. I don't know what it depends on.
The favicon works fine on other about: pages, e.g. about:memory.

Reproduced with 7.0b2 ru for Linux x86_64: in Panorama, blank tabs use a throbber icon, about:memory uses a normal generic web page icon.

It happened with my active profile. The only thing I suspected was that I opened Panorama immediately after opening the tab; but I cannot reproduce it intentionally.

I get the wrong icon also in Private browsing mode and also after clearing of the disk cache and restarting FF. I see in about:cache that file is not cached any longer (I know from which site the FT icon comes). It also happens in Safe mode and also after deleting startupcache.4.little.

I am not able to reproduce it.  Does it happen with the latest nightly for you?

Not if I use a new profile. However, if I run todays nightly9 on the daily used profile then I get it. The same FT icon is displayed.

Panorama has been removed from Firefox 45, currently in Beta and scheduled for release on March 7th. As such, I'm closing all existing Panorama bugs.

If you are still using Panorama, you will see a deprecation message in Firefox 44, and when 45 is released your tab group data will be migrated to bookmarks, with a folder for each group. There are also a few addons offering similar functionality.

We're removing Panorama because it has extremely low usage (about 0.01% of users), and has a large number of bugs and usability issues. The cost of fixing all those issues is far too high to justify, and so we'll instead be focusing our time and energy on improving other parts of Firefox.
