User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:6.0.1) Gecko/20110830 Firefox/6.0.1 SeaMonkey/2.3.1
Build ID: 20110830151746

Steps to reproduce:

I'm not sure if this is the same as Bug 516279 in Thunderbird.

I have to transfer mail to another Seamonkey profile on another computer on my network - laptop to PC, for example, and PC to PC. Prior to Seamonkey 2 I could just save the email as an eml file in the shared documents folder of the other computer then drag and drop the file into the right email folder in Seamonkey email client. Now I have to open the file in Outlook Express and import it from there into Seamonkey, which defeats the object of using Seamonkey for email.

Actual results:

Try to drag and drop .eml file into Seamonkey email client folder (e.g. inbox).
Nothing happens. Drag and drop fails.

Expected results:

Email item should appear in appropriate email folder, in Seamonkey email client.
I have replicated this very many times on three different computers.
Still doesn't work and is intensely annoying. I can save emails on one computer and send them over a network to another - shared documents folder for example. I should then be able to simply drag the .eml file to any folder in the seamonkey email client. But I can't, neither in Windows XP nor Windows 7. It's been like this since seamonkey 2.2 arrived. 2.1 was fine. I can replicate this on 4 different computers, in Win 7 (UK English), Win XP Pro (UK English) and Win XP Home (Italian).

In fact if you simply drag an email from any folder in the Seamonkey email client (e.g. inbox) to the desktop, you can't drag it back into Seamonkey - not in Windows 7, Win XP Professional SP3, or Win XP Home SP3.

So every time I want to send one or more emails from one computer to another I have to put the emails in outlook express and import them into seamonkey. This should be a basic function which I know still works on version 2.1. It's a fabulous time waster and am sorely tempted to ditch seamonkey because of this.
Possible Regression from Bug 500917 (drag & drop an .eml file into a mailbox folder via thread pane drop)
Has this been fixed yet? When I reported this bug I replicated it on 3 Win XP PCs, and 1 Windows 7 laptop.
I had to abandon Seamonkey eventually because no-one seemed to care about this pretty basic fault. I shouldn't have to use Outlook Express as a vehicle to get email from my desktop into Seamonkey. Or doesn't anyone on this project imagine that anyone will ever need transfer email files from one computer to another in the same room or office?

I would like to go back to using Seamonkey if possible because it's better than having separate browser and mail applications open, but I can't if this bug hasn't been fixed. Dragging and dropping .eml files from Windows desktop or folders in to mailboxes doesn't seem to me to be something out of the ordinary to expect. It's perfectly possible in Thunderbird and used to be ok in early versions of Seamonkey, and the old Mozilla suite.
OS: Windows XP → Windows 7
Still REPRODUCIBLE with EN-US SeaMonkey 2.33.1 (German Language pack) Gecko/20100101 Build 20150321194901 (Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit:

1. Downoad Attachment “test.eml” of Bug 1169601 to HDD_Samplefolder
2. Arrange WIN files Eplorer Window so that it fills left half of your screen
3. Launch SeaMonkey Mail
4. in Folder Pane → Local Folders → Create new folder “Test”
5. Arrange SM mail so that it fills right half of your screen, right from
WIN Files Explorer “HDD_Samplefolder” with “test.eml”
6. With mouse pointer click “test.eml” and try to drag and drop ot to
email client folder “Test” from step 4
Expected: When you reach folder “forbideen” symbol below file icon should
vanish and “test.eml” lands in folder “test” as email.
Actual: “forbidden” symbol stays, impossible to get “test.eml” into (any) folder
