User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:6.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0.2
Build ID: 20110902133214

Steps to reproduce:

After upgrading Thunderbird from v5 to v6 (current v6.02):
When sending a message the Check Spelling window always activates and the "Misspelled Word:" is blank.

This behavior was not seen in Thunderbird v5. No changes were made to the configuration updating from v5 to v6.

Actual results:

I tried Check Spelling prior to sending. It exhibited the same behavior - a blank for "Misspelled Word:"

I deliberately misspelled words. Check Spelling would not proceed beyond the blank to identify the deliberately misspelled words.

I replaced PERSDICT.DAT with a dummy PERSDICT.DAT of zero size. No change in symptom.

I downloaded the add-on United States English Spellchecker 5.0.1. (There were no dictionary add-ons previously.) This resolved the problem. Thereafter Check Spelling operates properly.

Expected results:

No change in the behavior of Check Spelling should have been seen migrating from Thunderbird v5 to Thunderbird v6.

Installing the add-on United States English Spellchecker 5.0.1 resolved the problem.
Incompatible add-on seems the source. Fixed by upgrading the addon.
