69359 - RFE: view saved files as mail messages when they contain messages

Description

If you save a mail message on the Mac it gets saved to a text file. If you then
visit the file with Mozilla using File->Open File, it's opened as plain text.

It would be nice if, when you opened a message you had saved to disk, Mozilla
parsed and displayed the message as a mail message which you could then reply
to, forward, save to a mail folder etc.

Sounds like a good idea (not only on the Mac), confirming.

Mozilla already detects HTML files by looking at the content, even if they
lack the HTML extention. So it could also detect a Mail or Mailbox by looking
for a "From " (From + space) line.

Mozilla pretty-prints mail messages saved as .eml files. But .eml files are
opened as Navigator pages, not mail messages, and the Mac does not automatically
append the .eml extension when saving messages.

I think I have already a bug about opening .eml file into a mail chrome window
instead of a browser window...

If this is about opening .eml's in a mail window, than this is a dupe of (fixed)
bug 143565. And if this is about detecting the mime type of a file when it
doesn't match the extension, I'm not sure it's even desirable. From comment 0,
it seems like a problem with saving messages on the Mac, but OS and HW is set to
All.

I'm marking this a dupe. If anyone's opposed, feel free to reopen and clarify
what this bug is supposed to be about.

...or bug 239555, as Mike Cowperthwaite suggests. I'm honestly not sure. Anyway,
this bug has been dead for nearly three years.
