Hello

I need to make sure that the new Content Blog - called "The Den" - will have sufficient tracking to make sure that the pieces of the funnel we've put in place are getting credit. :)

The tracking bug for the project is here: Bug 683008

The blog is built into the blog.mozilla.com platform, and is functioning as a "subcategory" of that blog, but only for backend purposes. The users won't know that it's not it's own blog

I need to be able to see which posts people are reading. Time on site, referring pages, etc. I also need to make sure that the elements on the right-hand side are trackable. How many downloads? How many email sign ups? Did we send folks to Twitter and Facebook? Are people clicking on the Firefox promo? Are they using the tag cloud, etc.

Let me know if I need to add more info. Launch date is set for Oct. 25.
Please send me the URL(s) that contain the items you would like to track.
Hi Bradley,

The site doesn't launch until Oct. 25 - we want to make sure it's built with the tracking in place (instead of after launch)

Can we work with you as we develop to make sure we include tracking?
You bet! If there is a dev or qa version of the page please send it over. This way I can test the tracking codes on my end.
Summary: Make sure Webtrends is tracking activity on new Content Blog - The Den → [User Engagement Blog] Set up WT
Hey Carmen/Chrissie - Please send the staging version of this site so Brad can create and test the tracking.

Brad - this new blog will fall into the existing blog.mozilla.com profile - NO new DCSID is needed.
Carmen/Chrssie - Even a static mockup will help here. Thanks!
Carmen,

I need a bit more clarity, before we can add more than the usual tracking to the user engagement blog, please see inline:

You can see this in the number of page views in standard web trends.

> Time on site,

Time on site is tracked at the domain level, so we can tell you from blog.mozilla.com, but if you are looking for more specificity: are you talking about the directory level /user-engagement or the per post level /user-engagement/post-title

It would be unusual to track time spent on a post, because the average would be in the seconds.

> referring pages, etc.

You can see this in standard web trends.

> I also need to make sure that the elements on the right-hand side are trackable.

Where does the green button link to? Is it a direct download or is it taking the user to /new
>

>How many email sign ups?

Have you coordinated with Winston on how email sign-ups will be tracked?

> Did we send folks to Twitter and Facebook?

If you're looking for this from an acquisition point we will need to have two icons that are clickable in the design. Currently, you have chosen to have the FB like button and a shared Tweet v. sending people offsite to sign-up.

>Are people clicking on the Firefox promo?

Are you referring to the Aurora house ad? How is this content generated, will it ever change, how often will it change?

>Are they using the tag cloud, etc.

You can track this by page view in standard webtrends, going to the tag archive page

> Let me know if I need to add more info. Launch date is set for Oct. 25.

A lot of the above requests are outside of the original scope, so beyond normal webtrends tracking we will have to get answers to the above before we can do more granular custom tracking.

I just need to make sure that he can either see this page as a referring page, or that I can see it in my page metrics.

I suppose we can see referring pages from Facebook insights, Twitter is harder. Okay for now. Phase 2

Yes, the aurora house ad, which will change as new campaigns come through. No set time.

Okay

I think we're good for now. If I can't find the numbers, I'll ask for help, or schedule it for phase 2.

Thanks!

Since this hasn't been coordinated with Winston, my recommendation is: file a separate bug to get Responys integration and an additional bug for WT (make WT one a blocker to the Responsys one).

Pull this out of the design for launch.

Each time you want to change that unit you will need to do the following:

- file a WT bug for new tracking for that campaign
- file an implementation bug for the graphic to be swapped out

For now, file a WT bug and include the screen capture, assign to Brad and set it as a blocker to bug 695395

Carmen, do you need assistance with anything in comment 9 ?
So I'm meeting with Winston to file a bug for tracking to the newsletter. For the "campaign" bug - do I need to wait until the Q&A is done?

I think you're referring to the Aurora house ad, if so same as above in comment 10, file a WT bug and include the screen capture, assign to Brad and set it as a blocker to bug 695395

Thanks Carmen!
Carmen, pinging here, do you need any assistance with moving forward on items in comment 9 and comment 12 ?
thanks for the nudge - still coordinating with Winston. I'm trying to figure out as well which campaign would go in that spot with the Aurora house ad, or if we even have one to start. It all depends on the timing of the launch of the theme.

OK, to manage expectations, each time you need to add or update with WT, it will need to go from Brad to the website team to update the HTML then back through infrasec and IT's release process. I just want to make sure you're able to get what you need in the timeframe you need it in.
