User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.23) Gecko/20110921 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.23
Build ID: 20110921065534

Steps to reproduce:

I copied a file from a local folder into the Drafts folder associated with my IMAP server. I then clicked on the draft and edited it. I repeat this process several times before I actually send the message out; there are some that I leave as a draft for extended periods of time.

Actual results:

Some of these messages are disappearing from the Drafts folder. I've seen some older drafts disappear but some of the newer ones are disappearing as well. Also I'm seeing some messages show up that shouldn't be there, I can't tell offhand if they are drafts that I'd deleted or just earlier versions of drafts that I'd edited.

I don't see any of these lost files in either the Trash or Sent folders when they're gone from Drafts.

Expected results:

The files should stay in the Drafts folder until I either delete them or send them.

It looks like an IMAP sync issue, but I'm not sure. Check bug 552208.
Carl can you reproduce everytime you do what you describe in comment 0 ?
My draft messages are disappearing one-by-one.
It seems to take a random amount of time before a message disappears, so I can't reproduce the problem very directly.

I'm sure this is an IMAP problem; the Drafts folder is associated with the account that uses the IMAP server, as opposed to being a local folder.
How are folders being sync'd between the client and the IMAP server?
Here's one other thing: in my account settings, I had the "Keep message drafts in" set to the IMAP account. I'm trying setting it to "Drafts folder" instead; I'll see if this makes any difference.
There is a known case of "incorrect draft mail is deleted upon save of new version of draft", bug 692768.
Same problem as that bug? Or different phenomenon such as "delete by retention policy"?

Show "Order Received" column of the Drafts folder(UID of mail is shown if IMAP folder), get IMAP log with timestamp, and check IMAP level flow.

> Win example : SET NSPR_LOG_MODULES=timestamp,imap:5
> IMAP command&response : http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3501

If log analysis by developer is needed, attach log file to this bug(never paste if long data, please), after remove or replace personal information in the log file.
