Right now all Firefox language packs have to go through the review process just like any other add-on.

But for the current set of languages being shipped by Firefox that would not be necessary, since those language packs[1] are built by Mozilla builders, have gone through l10n verifications (sign-off), etc.

Could you consider fast-tracking those language packs? At least until the resolution of Bug 485617. That would let localizers offer new language packs as soon as the versions are available.

We don't have a way to verify official language packs at the moment. We would need tools to do this.

Ideally, I think language packs shouldn't be submitted through the normal process, they should just be generated out of the build process and offered on AMO as coming from Mozilla. I don't know how much work is involved in generating a language pack extension, but I bet it's something that can be easily automated.

This is really low-priority, though.

The tool you mention could be something simple like getting the original file (the url should then be included in the "comments for the reviewers", I have done that). Then compare it with the one that was uploaded. That would make the reviewers inmediately confident about the quality of the package.

This bug is not about making it happen automatically, but about finding a way to help reviewers know the add-on can be trusted, faster.
We could put it in the fast track queue. This would essentially be bringing back the "trusted?" flag and making it to into the fast queue instead of auto-approving.
Duping as bug 485617 subsumes this.
