RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 296453

People

(Reporter: Ann-Marie, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.21022; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C)

Steps to reproduce:

BUG. Thunderbird crashes when trying to delete large quantities of old emails from INBOX. Quantity to crash not sure but 1,500 worked, 6,000 crashed

Actual results:

Froze completely, could not even drag window.

Expected results:

Emails should have been deleted.

WHERE IS THE SOLUTION/SUGGESTION BOX TO HELP OTHERS?
Only solution I could find was to delete the whole account (including email I wanted to keep) and re-creating the account.
So did is only hang (become unresponsive) until all messages were deleted?
Or did it really crash (close itself) ?
It froze solid, did not close. Did not even get the Thunderbird bug reporting popup. Totally unresponsive, could not even drag the window. Had to open Task Manager and close it manually. Happened repeatedly until I deleted the account.

I assume I could have seletece small quantities at a time and deleted them but it would have taken considerable time.
