Steps to reproduce:
I tried to modify the "Prefs/Privacy/Remember history" to "Use custom settings for history".
Actual results:
It seems to be possible, sub-options appear, BUT closing and re-opening the preferences panel shows the previous and default value, "Remember history", instead of my choice.
Tested on the french version of Firefox 8, under Linux/Fedora and Mac-OS X Lion. Same effect.
Expected results:
Taking into account my wish.....

This might be invalid from that point if no modifications were made to the checkboxes under "Use custom settings".
There is another entry for this, so marking this as a duplicate. You can watch the progress in issue 705544.
