STR:
1. Set Enable Plugins to "Tap to Play"
2. Quit Fennec
3. Open Fennec and go to http://people.mozilla.org/~mverdi/mockups/youtube.html
4. The "Old Embed" video will display a "Tap here to activate plugin" message.
5. Tapping that video will not activate the plugin and play the video.

Reopening if :margaret is assigned then!

I assigned myself because I'm going to look into it - I just want to make sure this isn't a problem with the click-to-play code.

This doesn't look exactly like a dupe of 700942, since that bug was about opening embedded youtube videos in the youtube app.

I can reproduce this. However, I made a test page with just the embedded youtube video, and that actually works for me: http://people.mozilla.com/~mleibovic/flash/embed-object.html.

Verdi, I'll continue to try to figure out why the video on your test page isn't working, but have you seen another example of this problem?

I just installed today's nightly 12.0a1 (2012-01-06) and went to your test page. When I tap the object it loads (I see a thumbnail and a play button) but subsequent taps only reload the object instead of playing it.

I then went back to my test page and found that tapping the "Old Embed" had the effect of loading both it and the "Iframe Embed" objects. Again, all subsequent taps on the old embed object just reloaded both flash videos and did not play them. Tapping on the Iframe Embed had no effect at all.

As for other examples:
http://talkbot.tv uses the old-style object and embed method (from blip.tv). Again, here, tapping loads the flash movie but subsequent taps only reload it.

The YouTube and Google blogs mainly use the newer Iframe style embeds that don't seem to work at all:

Hm, I wonder if this is the same issue as bug 710704. Maybe we're calling the function to play the plugins again, and that's breaking things. I'll look into that.

This is bug 710704 :(

Thanks for your help!

Oops, I copied the wrong bug number here. I think I meant bug 715730. Anyway, I landed a patch for that, so once that makes its way into Nightly, we should check if this is still a problem. I believe that patch fixes this bug (the old embed at least, not the iframe problem from bug 710704).

I just loaded up the 12-9-2011 nightly and your testpage http://people.mozilla.com/~mleibovic/flash/embed-object.html works! Yay!
I'm going to dupe this to bug 715730 then, since that fixed this issue.
