It's very annoying to always choose the same profile when starting up. Can't we just provide a "Always use this profile" checkbox in the dialog for choosing profiles to automatically pick THAT profile each time the browser starts up?
suggest wontfix. change your shortcut to do | mozilla -p profilename |

What's a shortcut? How do I change it. I just want to get rid of that box. It should be "easy", a pref, and increase startup time. How many times have you been caught debugging with that window waiting for a selection and it doesn't have focus?

I tend to agree with this. A lot of people probably want multiple profile functionality but don't want to be bothered with this every time they start the browser. This depends on the other bug that asks that the profile manager be accessible from within Mozilla (for dynamic switching). Conrad, what do you think of this idea?

I think it's a great idea. It really only makes sense if we used dynamic profile switching though. That's what PPEmbed does. In its profile picker which may come up at startup, there is a checkbox "Show At Startup." If unchecked, the app starts with the last used profile. Since you can bring up this dialog at any time when the program is running, you can pick a new profile (or not) and re-check it there. The problem with relying on the -p option is there are those of us who use platforms that don't have command lines ;-)

Conrad, What about extending the profile dialog to have access from within the browser, but if someone does choose to active another profile (not just change startup options), they are forced to restart the browser similar to the Startup Disk control panel.

Because I think it's only a small amount of work to do the right thing - dynamically switching profiles - that, if any work gets put into it, it should be applied there.

[Aufbau-P3]: This would make it easier to keep your porn profile separate from what other people see, or from what you see when you're not surfing porn.

For the impatient, here's how to do it using command-line options in the desktop shortcut that launches Mozilla: http://mywebpage.netscape.com/aufbau01/modifications.html#stealthprofiles

This would be useful when using the Mozilla ActiveX control (actually like in the Winamp3 minibrowser). It creates a new profile called "MozillaControl" in addition to "default" and it causes the profile manager to show up everytime Mozilla is launched. This problem is covered in bug 76664 , but this one could be a temporary workaround.
