RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 701325

People

(Reporter: adam, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Ubuntu; X11; Linux i686; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1
Build ID: 20111228084953

Steps to reproduce:

I opened three tabs in addition to my Inbox tab, each showing a different folder in my Gmail IMAP account.

Actual results:

The inbox tab continues to show new messages as they arrive in my Gmail inbox through IMAP. The other three tabs do not update automatically, nor do they update when I press F5. I have to click away to a different folder, and then back on the previous folder, only then does the tab show new messages.

Expected results:

Tabs should update automatically, of course. Each tab should IMAP IDLE-monitor its respective folder. They should also detect updates to their folders if the account as a whole is refreshed.

This makes tabs nearly useless, because I practically have to close and reopen each tab to see new messages. Might as well use Gmail in a browser with separate tabs.

Works for me. I opened a 2nd tab and within it the main inbox of my IMAP account is open. both tabs show new messages arriving:
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:9.0) Gecko/20111222 Thunderbird/9.0.1
Application Build ID: 20111222141531
I just tested this again and confirmed the buggy behavior. I opened a tab to a folder/label in my Gmail account. Then I used the Gmail web interface and marked two messages in the folder as read. Then I looked at Thunderbird and the messages were still unread. I hit F5 and saw the progress bar in the status bar move, but when it finished, nothing had changed. Then I closed and reopened the tab, and the messages were marked as read.
Yes, thank you, someone has filed this issue.

I have numerous IMAP folders on Dovecot 2, many of them are shared. I keep a lot of them open in tabs for quick access. I see unread counter increase in the folder pane, but switching to the tab does not have up to date contents of the mailbox. Switching to another mailbox and then back within this tab is required to get a fresh view. If there are arguments against losing original state (bug 487386 perhaps?) after switching away from the tab then at least let us have a Refresh button for folders, because this switcharoo between folders is mondo annoying.
Wow as a matter of fact, pressing F5 seemed to have worked for refreshing tab contents. I will confirm this further when some more mails arrive at affected mailboxes. For some reason I have been looking for a Refresh button to add to the toolbar. Of course now that I look through menus, I see F5 is simply a shortcut for "Get mails for current account". Wouldn't it be optimal to have a folder-refresh functionality, too?
