ESX is much more maintainable for MoCo, and Parallels has done nothing but continue to give us headaches. per discussion with Mozilla IT We'll be rebuilding all our VMs on ESX and retiring them from Parallels one by one until we are off Parallels entirely. -- at which point cb-parallels01 can die in a fire.
Yay for IT! I think I'll celebrate when the "Parallels experiment" is finally over, given the amount of headaches and work it caused IT, Callek, and myself. Can I come over and set fire to it myself? (Just joking...)
I'll save you some thermite.
No no no Robert we get first stabs at it :) We will try and make this move as smooth as possible as long as parallels plays nicely.

Is this still a thing? I see 2 parallels-on-mini's, with OSX guests, which we can't move over.

:gcox, the parallels server that *seamonkey* used is dead. However there are other VMs on parallels at present (chosen by IT-proper at some point) that will need moving afaict. e.g. load https://inventory.mozilla.org/en-US/core/search/#q=community.scl3.mozilla.com and sort by "Model" (the seamonkey one is technically dead and has been for a while)
Flags: needinfo?(gcox)
So, what I'm hearing is: * cb-seamonkey-linux* is dead and should be properly cleaned up. * parallels1.community is dead and should be properly cleaned up. * Because of this, this bug is technically done. * The other parallels use is not dead, but should be investigated. Good? Corrections?

Email from kai, on the other 2 parallels vm's: === Yes, they are still in use. They are used for automated building on testing of the NSPR ns NSS libraries, which are developed separately from Firefox, and which are therefore built/tested separately. NSPR and NSS are important base libraries used by Firefox, used for cross platform portability and for security/cryptography protocols. === So, it looks like inventory cleanup of parallels1/cb-seamonkey-linux* is all there is and this is dead.
Yes. The SeaMonkey project no longer employ anything under Parallels. So, I'm resolving this bug. (Since kai's servers are unrelated to the SeaMonkey ones, a separate bug can be filed (if it hasn't already) about those parallel servers)

Confirming: OK to do the decom process on these? cb-seamonkey-linux-01.community.scl3.mozilla.com cb-seamonkey-linux64-01.community.scl3.mozilla.com cb-seamonkey-linuxmaster-01.community.scl3.mozilla.com parallels1.community.scl3.mozilla.com (They're in various states in inventory, so, squashing-them-dead is a cleanliness thing)

oookay. Who's the right person to sign their death warrant in ink? I mean, this is kinda academic at this point: those boxes don't even ping and haven't in as long as I've known of this bug.

Callek would be the person who'd know 100%. I know for a fact that we don't use Parallels anymore; but I don't know what happens to the actual hardware and what to do with it. So pinging Callek.

Hey Greg, Whatever IT can/should/whatever do as far as retiring the hardware for parallels1 is ok-by-me. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=870207 contained the last vestiges of its life. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=771728 also has some relevant info. Either way, "parallels1" is a paper weight as far as I know. Since this is hardware in some weird state of flux (purchased by MoFo with money earmarked for SeaMonkey Community Project, I actually have *no* idea what legal things need to be accounted for as far as data security 501(c)(3) stuff, etc.) But no need to block on SeaMonkey for this. As far as other community parallels servers, as has been said before, they are not under SeaMonkey's use, but I believe they are under other teams uses.

Cool, I'm taking comment as a "yes" with a lot of info to process in scrubbing things out of inventory and the DC. That's enough for me to work from, thanks. I'll do a decom bug to round all this up. Thanks!
