We *BADLY* need the ability to Import/Export Addressbooks. Many have a PC at home and at work. There simply *must* be a way to get addresses from one PC to another!

Confirming, changing summary from "Import/Export Addressbooks" to "[RFE] Import/Export Mozilla Address Books" (as there already is an option to import Address Books from other programs), setting Platform = All and severity to Enhancement.
Severity: normal → enhancement
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Hardware: PC → All
Summary: Import/Export Addressbooks → [RFE] Import/Export Mozilla Address Books

Ideally, this feature would include a *Merge* option, so as not to create duplicate entries.

Would this bug also encompass importing and synchronizing from a Palm Pilot?

Marking nsbeta1 because there should be an easy way to move address books from one profile to another, or one machine to another.

marking 52045 a dup and including it's request to include export the mozilla address book in these formats; ldif, csv, txt

taking, I've got a patch in my local tree for exporting to .csv or .tab (.txt) format. it will be easy to extend to .ldif. there are some open issues: how to properly handle mailing lists (4.x didn't seem to do it right, either.) and how to handle all our new fields (work vs home).

importing txt, tab, csv and ldif works and now exporting to txt tab and cvs now works. the only piece missing is export to ldif. exporting and importing to XML would also be interesting. let's open up new bugs on that, since we can import and export addressbooks.

I do not want to be picky but "importing txt, tab, csv and ldif works" should read "importing txt, tab, and csv works". LDIF import is not properly functioning yet, see bug 62084.

Importing/exporting Mozilla/Netscape addressbooks is still not implemented. (feature that was originally requested in this bug) I filed bug 121725 for that purpose
