User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:10.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0
Build ID: 20120129021758

Steps to reproduce:

I tried to add other search engines for Thunderbird to use to "Search the web for..." but couldn't figure out a way to do that.

Actual results:

Nothing. Doesn't seem to be an option to add or subtract engines.

Expected results:

User should be able to use any search site via engine plugins available like: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html
Severity: normal → enhancement
Yep, they should.

I don't have time to work on it now, but if someone wants to pick this up and run with it, I'ld love to see it fixed.

Thanks,
Blake.

Note for anyone thinking about doing this: you probably shouldn't bother until bug 335781 is fixed.
If you don't need a UI for that:
Thunderbird OpenSearch follows Firefox OpenSearch specs. Have a look here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Creating_OpenSearch_plugins_for_Firefox and you can build your own search provider.

That may be, but once the build is done, there is no way to install it in thunderbird.

Take care,
Josh

Josh,

I believe that if you copy it into a "searchplugins" directory in your Thunderbird profile, it should show up in the list.

Could you give it a try, and report back?

Thanks,
Blake.
In light of the change-over to Bing, can you please get this GUI in the next TB release so we can manage our own preferences?
