Linuxs 2001031921 & 2001031611, Linux 2.4.2-ac7, XFree86 4.0.2, RedHat 6.1
For the given URL, mozilla takes up 95-99% of the CPU, and mozilla becomes
unresponsive, and sometimes even crashes. I'm filing this under OJI
because it's the mozilla-bin process that's consuming the CPU, and not the
JVM, so my non-educated guess is that it's a problem with the mozilla/JVM
interface.

The given page is no-longer serving the same ad it was yesterday (when it
was serving the same ad over and over for the same page). I'll attempt
to track down the ad.

Ooops, turns out it's a shockwave ad, and not a java applet. Changing
the summary, URL, and component, and adding an attachment which gives you
the problem ad.
Component: OJI → Browser-General
Summary: Mozilla hogs CPU for certain Java applet → Shockwave ad hogs CPU

The attachment doesn't work for me. Would you double check it please?

Looks like they've taken it down; grrr. I'll try to contact IBM (I think
that they were the ones who did it) and see if I can find a permanent
URL that'll have it.

Here's another page with a similar shockwave widget:

This bug appears to exist under Windows NT, Mozilla 0.9.1 Build 2001060703 as well.

reassign to self.
I'm unable to reproduce this with any latest (Dec. 2001) linux builds.
flash animation on both test urls
http://www.soundsourcenet.com/homepage.html
http://www.nmoweb.net (from bug# 80251)
works fine, no performance degradation or any cpu problem.
Matthew are you still seeing this problem?
