Details

If you use your mouse to drag-select a block of text in the editor, and your drag action stops with the mouse positioned outside of the immediate editor textarea (in the line number area for instance), the selected background will attempt to highlight the line in question but fail repetitively.
Thanks for your bug report Daniel! This is a known bug. See bug 717631. It will be fixed once bug 718816 lands.
