731433 - Prompt users who didn't opt in/out originally to opt into telemetry (beta channel)

I know we're looking to use opt-out for telemetry in nightly/aurora.  This may be a bit much for beta but I think that we can take strides to increase the data we get from our pre-release audience simply by prompting everyone who didn't explicitly say no (or yes).

I'd like to re-prompt these users (perhaps with the first Firefox 12 beta) to bump our telemetry audience.

We have the ability to determine who has explicitly opted in or out and can reprompt. I don't think we've discussed the frequency with which we want to reprompt these users.

Unfortunately no, we can't determine for all the cases which users have opted out, and which users are in the default case. (We don't save that the user have made a choice when he disable telemetry by unchecking the box in the pref pane. We'll fix that in bug 699806, but for now, we still can't guess it for this particular crowd.)

You're correct Theo. As we discussed elsewhere, it is likely that the population of users who have opted out by deselecting the checkbox after opting in is low. We should fix this issue so that we can tell who has opted out in all cases. Once fixed, I think it is suitable to reprompt beta users who are not opted in and who have not opted out through the notification.

I believe that in the post unified notification bar world that this is no longer needed. See bug 804745 and bug 829881. If there are still requirements for this, please accept my apology for closing without consultation (I don't like invalid bugs sitting seemingly ready for action) and reopen this bug.
