Can't paste from clipboard into Thunderbird

Details
I cannot paste anything - text or an image - into Thunderbird if what I'm pasting came from "outside" of Thunderbird.
Normally, I can highlight a URL or right-click and copy a picture to the Windows clipboard and then go into T'bird and paste it. This function currently doesn't work at all - no matter if I'm using the Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V shortcuts, or the Edit-Copy/Edit-Paste route. (I've confirmed that the text or image are successfully being pasted to the clipboard, because I can paste into other software programs.)
Strangely, if I highlight some text or an image within the body of another T'bird e-mail I've received, I can successfully cut and paste it!
It's as if T'bird isn't finding anything on the clipboard that wasn't generated within it.

Which version (and also which extensions/add-ons) are you using? Also, can you paste your copied contents into another application?

The version from the Help - About screen is 11.0.
The only add-on is BirdieSync; software to synchronize my Android phone with Thunderbird.
Yes. Whatever I've copied will go into other applications as they normally would. It's only when they're going into T'bird that there's a problem.

I doubt this is a thunderbird problem. And Jean hasn't responded.
