Steps to reproduce:

We were using the old version of Thunderbird 3.0 which was phased out so I tried to download the new version and am having multiple issues with attachments and zip files.


Actual results:

When I try to open attachments in an email (or save them), I can not use any programs on my computer until the attachment saves or opens which seems to take an excessive amount of time.

which account type (POP? IMAP?) is this about, and which exact operating system (for example "Windows 7")?

Pop I am fairly certain and Windows XP....If I need to revert back to the earlier version of Thunderbird can I?  Will that fix the problem?
You could but it's not supported anymore. Are you having an anti-virus that scans files when you open them ?
