We would like to have a homepage-snippet to promote Firefox Flicks. - Preferred time-slot: August. Earlier = Better. - We'd like to make use of the new video-snippet technology, if possible. What are the next steps? Who can we work with to create the code/design for this? Thanks!
Thanks Tobi Adding in here: 1. Can we track views the in-snippet video and how?
The first part of the month is packed with Fennec/Olympics take overs. But we can get something rolling on 8/14 and run for the remainder of August. For the video: - as-small-as-possible-in-filesize webm video When can we get our hands on the video?
Also - will this be localized and if so in what locales?
Wow, this means we'll be "live" for about 2 weeks?? Potentially a couple million clicks afaik. We better make this awesome :D *Video File* Winston - I do have the original video files and I think I can handle the conversion (using miro). Are there any other technical infos like resolution, framerate and dimension? I suppose the codec can be "Vorbis" OR "VP8"? *Snippet Tech* Could someone add a video-snippet developer to this bug? We need to ask a dev e.g. about tracking the views. Also, will the video only be shown in that tiny container, or will it e.g. roll-out once someone clicks the play button? *Localization* The last Flicks snippet was localized in EN-US, DE, FR, ES and PT-BR it seems. Kristin, do we want more languages?
Will there be various versions of the video? Or different videos for each locale? Mkelly is responding to tech questions shortly.
(In reply to Tobias Leingruber (@tbx) from comment #4) > Winston - I do have the original video files and I think I can handle the > conversion (using miro). Are there any other technical infos like > resolution, framerate and dimension? I suppose the codec can be "Vorbis" OR > "VP8"? Although not a requirement, the last video snippet was 270x480 pixels. Not sure about the framerate, though. Codec shouldn't matter either, as long as Firefox will play it. > Could someone add a video-snippet developer to this bug? We need to ask a > dev e.g. about tracking the views. Also, will the video only be shown in > that tiny container, or will it e.g. roll-out once someone clicks the play > button? Tracking views depends on whether our metrics team has access to logs from the videos.mozilla.org CDN, which I suspect they don't. CCing aphadke and bsternthall, who both were involved in adding general tracking stats to snippets to weigh in on this. As for the video display, our video snippet implementation currently shows a normal-looking snippet that, when clicks, fades out and then shows and expanding box that displays the video at it's normal resolution. We'll be able to preview it before going live with the snippet to make sure it works. > *Localization* > The last Flicks snippet was localized in EN-US, DE, FR, ES and PT-BR it > seems. Kristin, do we want more languages? Will the video have localized subtitles? We ran into issues with another snippet video trying to use the universal subtitles service (technical and legal issues) and will need extra time to resolve those issues if you intend to use the service for this. If you do need localized subtitles, an easier alternative would be to embed the subtitles within the video. Having the localized transcripts for the video would also be nice, as we could embed them into the snippet somehow to make it more accessible.
We will need to file an IT bug to have zeus collect logs from video.mozilla.org and sync it with the NFS filer for logs to be accessible on etl2.metrics.scl3.mozilla.com. Once that's done, the logs will be available for analysis via HIVE.
winston: Are we good to start filing bugs for setting up tracking for this?
Good to go on my end.
"You are not authorized to access bug #770339." Could I have access to it? What do I need to do?
I don't have access either. Is that bug about making sure invideo works for Snippets?
(In reply to Kristin Baird from comment #11) > I don't have access either. Is that bug about making sure invideo works for > Snippets? CC'd you on it, it's an IT bug for metrics to set up their systems for getting logs from the video server so we can get view statistics for the video snippet.
*Localization of Video-Files* - We have 3 videos that don't need to be localized (no voice-over etc.) - One video does have some text on signs. Not sure if it's reasonable to create localized versions for it? ("Paraniod" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN91VeHdGwI ) *Rotation* - Could we rotate 3-5 different videos? (This will be online for about 2 weeks, so it sounds like a cool idea to me) - Nice-to-have: 3-5 videos in the first week, than look at the stats and in case they show clear differences: Only show the best-performing ones in Week 2. *Snippet Tech* - Cant wait to see a first test-page and test it with a video!
*Geo-targeting* - Would it be possible to show the "Squares" video in North-America (and eventually the UK) only? Let us know if things are getting too complex, though.
def can target by locale. That's not a problem. Running 3-5 at a time for 2 weeks would monopolize the channel a bit. We try not to run more than 5-6 snippets at a time. Let me think through scheduling and how we'd juggle that with other programs.
Thanks. We can prioritize which ones to run as well.
(In reply to Tobias Leingruber (@tbx) from comment #13) > *Localization of Video-Files* > - We have 3 videos that don't need to be localized (no voice-over etc.) > - One video does have some text on signs. Not sure if it's reasonable to > create localized versions for it? ("Paraniod" - > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN91VeHdGwI ) Subtitles would probably be needed for that video. We can add the subtitles in along with the snippet text when we ask for localization, I believe. We'll need someone to create subtitled versions of the video, though. Would you be able to handle that, Tobias? > *Snippet Tech* > - Cant wait to see a first test-page and test it with a video! I can get a test snippet up for preview once we have the text for the snippet (including which word to link in order to start video playback) and a converted video file to use.
*Snippet preview* Test video: (File-dimensions, framerate etc. non-specific, WebM, 2.2MB) https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12343904/mozilla/flicks/snippet_videos/weird_things.webm Test copy: "A <a href="http://firefoxflicks.org">global video contest</a> to tell our story - Firefox Flicks. <a href="ACTION">Click to play a winning video!"</a> *Videos Files* I just double checked on how-to create subtitles with iMovie. I can do it. I'll talk to Kristin to create an overview of all the video files + copy-drafts.
The test snippet is up on the snippets staging server. To see it, download the snippet preview extension and open it in Firefox to install it: https://github.com/downloads/mozilla/home-snippets-switcher/home-snippets-switcher-0.4.xpi Once installed, there should be a "SNIPPETS!" line in your addon bar that can be clicked to open up the snippet preview dialog. Enter "https://snippets.stage.mozilla.com" for the base_url and "flicks_video" for the name field, and then view about:home. You should see the test snippet appear. Feel free to ping me on IRC if you have issues.
Michael - Thanks, the snippet-preview looks fantastic! *Snippet Icon* Underneath are a screenshot how it'll look like, the icon-file (40x60 pixels) and just in case - the original logo-vector-files: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12343904/mozilla/flicks/snippet/flicks_snippet_preview.png https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12343904/mozilla/flicks/snippet/flicks_icon_40x60_pixels.png https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12343904/mozilla/flicks/snippet/flicks_icon_vector.pdf *Questions* - An update on how many snippets we can have in rotation at one time? - Could we optimize (e.g. after week 1) to only show the copys/videos that attracted the most clicks?
Hey Winston, When you get a chance will you please answer Tobi's questions in comment 20. Thanks so much.
Sorry for the delay. I'd like to limit to three test snippets and then settle on one that we can run for an extended period of time once we've evaluated which snippet has the highest CTR.
Mkelly - can we update the icon we have on stage with: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TITEcxCAgA0/TuuKBzy1hGI/AAAAAAAACqc/YvHlli2XBrE/w216-h270-k/snippet-flicks-40x50.png What else needs to happen before we push live? We have this slated for the 19th. I'm checking with metrics on the status of getting tracking set up. Thanks!
(In reply to Winston Bowden from comment #23) > Mkelly - can we update the icon we have on stage with: > https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TITEcxCAgA0/TuuKBzy1hGI/AAAAAAAACqc/ > YvHlli2XBrE/w216-h270-k/snippet-flicks-40x50.png > > What else needs to happen before we push live? We have this slated for the > 19th. We'll need a list of the final videos that we're going up with and the copy for them (unless I've missed this list somewhere :) ).
Kristin/Tobias - can you add the list of the final videos and copy into this bug?
We minimized the list to keep it simple. We'd like to show the following 3 videos: - Falling in love with Firefox (all languages) - Paranoid (Video localized to EN,DE,FR,ES,PORT) - Squares (EN-countries only) Copy + video-links following asap.
Thanks Tobi. Mkelly - once we get the info above, what's a realistic schedule for implementing?
Once we get the videos we'll have to put them up on the video CDN, so it will depend on when Rainer or wenzel can put them up. The dev effort is minimal, so I'd estimate a day (most of which is to allow for syncing up with Rainer/wenzel).
Here's the localized copy: https://etherpad.mozilla.org/copy-for-flicks-snippet-august Looking allright? Videos coming soon.
Thanks, Tobi. Do you think we'll have videos in hand tomorrow?
Thanks, Tobi. mkelly - do we have what we need to get started setting this up?
Sorry to jump in here late. Is it possible to see the experience that the user will see before it's live? I'd like to see how its staged with the icon, the text and the experience of the video. Thanks.
(In reply to Kristin Baird from comment #33) > Sorry to jump in here late. Is it possible to see the experience that the > user will see before it's live? I'd like to see how its staged with the > icon, the text and the experience of the video. Thanks. Yes, we'll put at least one snippet on staging before it goes live. First mkelly needs to put the videos up on the Flicks site. What will be the copy for each snippet? Has that been localized?
Sorry, I should've been more specific earlier. :( While the specific resolution of 270x480 wasn't a requirement, we need a smaller video and smaller video filesize; the webm versions are best due to their small filesize, but could still use some downsizing. I recommend resizing them down to 270x480 and exporting them as webm. I've tried doing this myself, but Miro just crashes and the Miro Video Converter doesn't appear to have a resolution setting. Is there any other program we can use to generate the video files? Beside that, everything is good. We have the copy and the icons.
OK, video-resolution is 480p now and file-sizes even smaller. The solution to changing it to 480p was to use the Quicktime Pro exporter and than Miro afterwards. Updated WebM links: Squares video: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12343904/mozilla/flicks/snippet_videos/flicks_snippet_squares_480p.webm Falling in Love with Firefox video: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12343904/mozilla/flicks/snippet_videos/flicks_snippet_falling_480p.webm If this is OK, we have 2 out of 3 snippets ready go. Kristin needs to see a screenshot first though before we can really go live with it. The third (missing) video is subtitled in 5 languages, I'm planning to send those files in 480p by tomorrow.
I've sent the video links to wenzel, who will be uploading them to the video CDN shortly. I've put the en-US versions of the snippets up on the production server in preview mode, so they aren't live yet. They're still using the dropbox links, and I'll update them with the correct URLs once the videos land on the CDN and put the rest of the locales up as well. If you want to preview the snippet, you can set the URL in your snippet switcher to `https://snippets.mozilla.com/preview` and your version to `14.0`. You may have to refresh a bit to see both snippets as there are a few other snippets in the preview rotation currently. Also, it appears that the switcher is broken in Nightly, so try to stick to Fx14 for using the switcher for now. Sorry! I'm attaching screenshots for preview as well. Let me know if you need anything before the rest of the snippets go up. :D
I'm on the outer outskirts here, so pardon what may be an irrelevant question. Does the video player not show until someone clicks on the "watch the video" link? I'm asking, because for the future, I think the video views would be way up if they saw a video still with a play icon. Perhaps you've already discussed, and it's not doable in the snippet. Throwing it out there :)
Currently it doesn't show until someone clicks on the "watch the video" link, but it's not technically difficult to do so if we manually take a screenshot from the video (it'd delay this particular snippet though because I'm busy with another project and wouldn't be able to spare the dev time for a while).
I certainly don't want to hold up the snippet for now. Deferring to Winston, but I think it'd be great to enter another bug (?) and enable it for the screenshot. I can't "prove" that it'll get more clicks, but I'm betting it would based on other experiences :)
Thanks, Carmen. I think you're right - it would def get more clicks. But we also want to take into consideration the user experience and why they're on the page - which is generally to search rather than engage with mozilla content. I think that's why we opted for a more minimal approach - to ensure we're not being overly invasive.
Thanks. Carmen, you read my mind. That was going to be my exact question. How are we doing it for other videos from snippets? I think the Android video is going to be in the snippet soon, will that one have a play icon? I am ok delaying this snippet if we can get the video play icon as I think it would up views. If the team feels the play icon is to invasive on the page when we know people are coming to search I can be convinced to leave it as is. Or can we test both versions? In the future if we want to show more videos in the snippet it would give us learnings.
I don't think there is an open bug for the android video yet. We are doing an android animation starting 9/10. But that's a different project. In terms of the video play icon or no play icon - you guys can make that call based on mkelly's schedule as to whether or not you want to move forward with what we have or wait until you implement with the play icon. Let me know which way you want to go so we can finalize the snippet schedule. September has a lot of promotions in que for other programs.
FYI any extra dev effort would move implementation back to at least the middle of next week, and more likely the week after that (Affiliates Facebook is a time monster that wants to devour my soul, clearly).
Hi, I just showed this stuff to Pete and he asked that we take another look at the way we do this. So I am doing a little research to be able to provide clear directions on what we want so we don't spin. He also asked that we relook at the copy and make it more fun and engaging. So, I realize we are going to miss our window to launch the Flicks snippet. That's ok, we want to do this right so we will get back to you when we have more info and then lets work together to figure out the right schedule. Apologies! Thanks for understanding.
Wireframes for the updated Flicks snippet are attached. - Sharing has been added for Facebook and Twitter. Should we add others at this time? - Visual design is needed for the snippets icon (an icon representing not just Flicks, but sets up expectation that this is a video snippet) and assets in final frame. Mike, let me know if I'm missing anything that you need. - All copy in wireframes is for placement only.
@Holly Great work! Please keep us posted on the work-sprint plannings / process of this implementation. We would like to get this snippet live "End of October" among with the generall Flicks 2013 announcement.
Thanks, Tobias. Lee Tom has already started on the visual design elements. There is something else that we should discuss. We will be sharing a URL in the field for Facebook and Twitter sharing. I think that the page that displays the shared video should have an element of branding from Firefox Flicks. We could host the video on Flicks and use the following template (and short URL for sharing fields): https://firefoxflicks.mozilla.org/en-US/video/493 http://mzl.la/InvJlr
Mkelly informed me that flicks relies on a third-party vendor to process and post the videos on Flicks, which would mean for slow deployment. It is better if we have a minimal page on bedrock to display the videos instead of using Flicks. We can still generate the shortened http://mzl.la/xxxxx URL format.
Mkelly: Would it be possible to just "submit" a video as it was possible during the contest? I need to sync with Kristin about the video(s), but if we stay with the ones we had selected a while ago than we'd already have pages for 2 out of 3 video-snippets: - Squares (for EN-only): https://firefoxflicks.mozilla.org/de/video/212 - Falling in love with FF (all languages): https://firefoxflicks.mozilla.org/de/video/493 - Paranoid (localized videos for EN,DE,FR,ES + PORT) (This one would need to be uploaded 4 more times)
The code for submitting videos was removed when the contest ended, but we still might be able to make it work with a bit of help from IT in editing the database and running some commands. How long do these videos need to be up? I'm not sure what will happen to existing videos on Flicks once the new contest begins and these links might break.
Mkelly: I'll send you an email to discuss the upload-issue. Uptime for these videos shouldn't be a problem, it won't interfere with the contest-opening (planned: January).
Via Winston: This video-snippet is scheduled to be online 10/29 - 11/14
Updates to wireframes include: - Dedicated page for video that is very minimal and has Flicks branding (on bedrock, not Flicks). Need to discuss with Lee Tom about visual design. - Ability to share URL - need to discuss with Mkelly about options for interaction and Lee Tom about button design. Notes: Copy should set expectation for the video, so link placement in the wireframes is subject to change depending on snippet copy. We originally discussed using the snippet image to communicate that this was a video snippet, but we will use the Flicks logo as-is without altering it.
Thanks for doing all of this Holly! Dedicated pages: I talked to Mkelly about the URLs/hosting and he'll be able to put the 4 videos with localisations of "Paranoid" up onto the Flicks page with some backend magic. We do have the other videos online already e.g.: https://firefoxflicks.mozilla.org/video/286 . This means the new dedicated page won't be necessary. Share Copy (Twitter + FB text suggestion): We could either use almost the same copy as in the snippets*[1] or something simple like this: "'Squares', a Firefox Flicks 2012 winner: http://www.xyz.com" *[1] Paranoid copy: What if companies could track you offline like they do online? Watch this winning video from Firefox Flicks for the answer: http://www.xyz.com Falling in Love copy: Fall in love with Firefox. Let this winning video from Firefox Flicks show you: http://www.xyz.com Squares copy: Online, everything is connected. See how Firefox keeps you in control in this winning video from Firefox Flicks: http://www.xyz.com
Depends on: 797380
:tbx Are these snippets to run in just en-US or additional locales as well? If additional locales, have you filed the l10n bugs to get these strings localized?
Attached image final frame state - 01
Attaching the a mockup of the final frame state to the video that will play on about:home. See page 5 of Holly's latest PDF for details
Attaching the a mockup of the Share icon that will appear when user clicks the Share button in video control panal. See page 6 of Holly's latest PDF for details
mkelly: When dev starts on this, let me know. I have a question about possibilities for the URL sharing interaction.
Depends on: 797383
After discussing it on IRC with habber, I believe we've decided to change the behavior of the sharing button to pause the video and pull up the final frame state, replacing the "replay" button with a "resume" one.
Hi. Do we have an ETA on completing dev and a target date for going live? Working on snippet schedule for q4 and need to get flicks on the calendar.
(In reply to Winston Bowden from comment #63) > Hi. Do we have an ETA on completing dev and a target date for going live? > Working on snippet schedule for q4 and need to get flicks on the calendar. We're having a status call tomorrow, so we might have some more info for you then. Right now, we know that this is scheduled to run 29 Oct through 14 Nov. We'll start development this week or next.
Due to the amount of effort and time it will take to put the "share" option within the video controls, we have come up with a solution that will require no updates to the video controls. Please see attached wireframes. The only change is that on hover, along with displaying video controls, a share button will appear as a layer on the video screen. (see Vimeo for live example) Once user selects Share, the video pauses and share options appear over video frame. This visual is the same as the final frame of the video. When Share is selected during video play, "Replay" will say "Continue" instead. See updated wireframes. Lee Tom: Because of this change we will need 2 visual design updates. 1) a Share button to overlay on the video frame 2) text that says "Continue" next to a play button, similar to the "Replay" text on final frame. Could you also share the .psd or export the elements for mkelly?
Here's a download link to the wireframes as well: http://cl.ly/3a031g0L0S13
Attaching 2 states of the frame overlay: 1 - replay button 2 - resume button
If there aren't any issue with these new visual elements, I can link the PSD for mkelly - just let me know. Thanks
Lee Tom, There was one additional ask in comment 65. See page 4 of the wireframes: http://cl.ly/3a031g0L0S13 We need a share button to overlay the video frame, similar to what Vimeo does.
The updated version of the player is on the snippets staging server. Instructions for previewing a snippet can be found at: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Projects/Firefox_Start/Snippet_Service#Testing_Snippets_with_Local_or_Stage_Service . The NAME for this snippet is `flicks_2012_video`. The development code for the snippet can be found at https://github.com/Osmose/snippets/tree/flicks-2012/video-snippets/flicks-2012-video . There are links for how to work on the snippet in case more development is needed in the next week while I'm gone. ckoehler may have mentioned this to some of you, but I'll be on PTO for the next week, but still checking email, and watching this bug. Sorry for the late notice; I booked the travel before I started working on this and forgot to tell the team once I started the work. :( Things that still need to be done: - Share Button is unstyled. - Facebook and Twitter icons are not final, we need actual icons with a license we can use (and that aren't violating the Twitter brand guide, which don't allow the T) - Share link needs to be updated. - Copy in the current snippet isn't final. - Resume and Replay buttons need graphics. - Final video URL needs to be filled in. A few small notes: - The external link text to firefoxflicks.org has to be in one string, so we can't copy the mockup exactly with the "Visit" text being smaller, centered above, and not a link. - The copy link border isn't quite right and could be improved, although I would suggest that we make it white instead of black so it is more obviously a field that can be copied.
mkelly is on PTO this week. In the meantime, can we put together the outstanding items he listed above so that next week we can wrap this up?
Tobias: Can you provide the following copy? - The snippet copy itself - The copy that is shared to Twitter (pg 5 of wireframes) - The copy that is shared to Facebook (page 5 of wireframes) Wireframes: http://cl.ly/3a031g0L0S13 This copy will also need to be localized if it hasn't been already.
Copy is in comment 29 - though Tobi - I apologize for asking this last minute, but I wondered if Matej looked at that copy for voice? The first snippet has style errors (quotes around "real life", for example) and the second snippet doesn't seem like something we'd run in a snippet - it seems very strange to me. I'm cc'ing him on this bug, and have asked him to review. For the Twitter and FB copy, I'd appreciate a review of that before this goes live, please. There are certain elements that we usually include that I'd like to make sure are in there.
AFAIK, the copy in comment 29 is old. As per Kristin's comment in comment 47, I did take a look at this copy and sent off some new options via email. I seem to recall a lot of people were traveling at that time, but I think I sent the new copy to Kristin, Pete and Winston. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any of those emails right now. Do any of you still have it?
I was one of the people traveling. :) I am pretty sure Tobi has the finals. I've asked him to update.
This is the approved main copy, should be ready to go: Paranoid: What if companies could track you offline like they do online? Watch this winning video from Firefox Flicks for the answer. Falling in Love: Fall in love with Firefox. Let this winning video from Firefox Flicks show you how. Squares: Online, everything is connected. See how Firefox keeps you in control in this winning video from Firefox Flicks.
Tobi, is the text in comment 77 for the snippet itself? Do we have localizations? What will the next be for the Twitter post and Facebook share?
(In reply to Tobias Leingruber (@tbx) from comment #77) > This is the approved main copy, should be ready to go: > > Paranoid: > What if companies could track you offline like they do online? Thanks Tobi!
Adding some screenshots of the current state of the snippet on stage for Lee's review.
This screen is also shown at the end of the video, but the "Resume" string changes to "Replay"
mkelly, here's the link to the PSD http://cl.ly/1s3U200U1F0O The file includes art for: - Share icon (appears during video play, upon hover) - Facebook share and Twitter tweet buttons - "Replay" CTA - "Continue video" CTA Let me know if you need anything or have any questions about the file. Thanks! L
Hi all - Looking fabulous! Mkelly - Could you please post the latest screenshots including Lee's graphics? It'll be ready for Pete to approve than. What are the last missing pieces now? From my side it's the localisation of the following copy, please let me know if I'm missing something: - Localized snippet-copy (Comment 77) - Localized interface-copy (words: share, resume, replay, visit firefoxflicks.org) - Localized standard-sharing-text "'Squares', a Firefox Flicks 2012 winner: http://www.xyx.com "'Falling in Love with Firefox', a Flicks 2012 winner: http://www.xyx.com" "'Paranoid', a Firefox Flicks 2012 winner: http://www.xyx.com"
(In reply to Tobias Leingruber (@tbx) from comment #84) > > - Localized standard-sharing-text > "'Squares', a Firefox Flicks 2012 winner: http://www.xyx.com > "'Falling in Love with Firefox', a Flicks 2012 winner: http://www.xyx.com" > "'Paranoid', a Firefox Flicks 2012 winner: http://www.xyx.com" Hi Tobi, is this your proposed share text? I'm wondering, because I think there are some key elements missing that would help with the viral nature of the sharing posts. I'm happy to help craft the message.
Thanks for your quick help Carmen. More social sharing-text is done, all copy here: https://etherpad.mozilla.org/flicks-snippet-2012-localisation (Should take another day until we have it fully localized)
(In reply to Tobias Leingruber (@tbx) from comment #86) > Thanks for your quick help Carmen. More social sharing-text is done, all > copy here: https://etherpad.mozilla.org/flicks-snippet-2012-localisation > > (Should take another day until we have it fully localized) One possible issue is that we need to specify in the text where the link will be so localizers can add the link into their translated text. tbx: Please add <a> and </a> around the text you want to be clickable in the snippet. For example: What if companies could track you offline like they do online? <a>Watch this winning video</a> from Firefox Flicks for the answer.

I've also added the word "Tweet" to this list, as we're using that in the tweet button now. IIRC it's the same in most languages anyway.
The staging snippet has been updated with the latest code, and I believe I've got all the final copy in it. Attaching updated screenshots.

Looking good. Just two things: Can Visit have an uppercase V, please? And do we need to say Share above those buttons since they already say Share and Tweet right on them? I'd say not.
Thanks mkelly! I'll add "tweet" to the pad and ask people to add the link-info as you suggested. I agree with Matejs comment - "Visit" in uppercase; We could also remove "share" entirely as by Matejs suggestion. Other ways? In Hollys wireframe "Share" was in front of the 3 sharing-options, which made it more clear. I think it's (if at all) needed in front of the link-field. Actually, what about calling it "Link"? All solutions sound good to me. In the end we just want people to get that they can actually copy/paste that URL.
Hi all - Can we get an update on timing for this project? The updated snippet schedule had this going live on 10/29. Where do we think we are now? Thanks.
@Lee @Holly I just looked at the snippet together with the rest of the website and I have a feeling the fonts (character, type, colors) could be more consistent. Do you have a comment on this?
Winston - I say mid-next-week. I hope we can fix the last details today and ask Pete for approval by tmrw.
I agree with Matej's comment above. Now that the share buttons say "tweet" and "share" on them instead of the icons, we can remove "Share" copy above the buttons. Tobias: Those are the Mozilla fonts from the styleguide. Lee Tom is the visual designer, so I'll defer to him on this.

I agree that we can remove "Share" above the buttons. With regards to the fonts, Holly is correct that both the colors and fonts are all a part of our brand styles. I'm not sure if I mocked up the URL/form with Open Sans, but if it's an option, let's use it. mkelly, can you confirm? (In reply to Lee Tom from comment #102) > I'm not sure if I mocked up the URL/form with Open Sans, but if it's > an option, let's use it. mkelly, can you confirm? You might've, but given the size limits on snippets I recommend only embedding one custom font, which is currently Open Sans Light for most of the overlay. The rest is using the default about:home font.
Hi all, here's an alt version of the video share overlay. - removed "Share" copy - all fonts are Open Sans light - all link colors are our default link color #0095DD
Looks good. Will the italics in Replay be an issue (i.e. is that considered a separate font)?
(In reply to Matej Novak [:matej] from comment #105) > Looks good. Will the italics in Replay be an issue (i.e. is that considered > a separate font)? Italics are fine, the browser will handle that. It won't look *quite* as good as if we supplied a specific italic font but it gets the job done. My earlier screenshots already have this and show what the result is.
Is Open Sans Light Italic not included in fonts we can use? That's what I used in the mockup. (In reply to Lee Tom from comment #107) > Is Open Sans Light Italic not included in fonts we can use? That's what I > used in the mockup. It's not that we can't use it, it's that we'd like to only use one font file, and Open Sans Light and Open Sans Light Italic are two separate font files (or, if available as one, is still a rather large file as it has to contain both fonts).
tbx: Looking at the tweet text that you used in the etherpad, some of the sharing strings on there are too long to fit in a tweet along with a link. The English string for Paranoid is too long, as are most of it's translations. And most of the translations for Squares are too long as well. We could maybe remove the "via @Firefox" part but that doesn't fix all of the strings. Please note that mzl.la strings take the form "http://mzl.la/IFcu9W", which is 20 characters + 1 space to seperate, which means any string longer than 119 characters will not fit in a tweet. I've added an underline to the strings in the etherpad that are too long. Note that we can still use a string that is too long, the user will just have to edit it before submitting their tweet.

Good catch, Mike. I've updated the EN text for Paranoid.

@mkelly Styling: I've run this by several people and this shall be the final feedback now. 1) Here's a "quick" CSS update by SHorlander, e.g. the bold border is replaced by a "glow" effect now. Code: http://cl.ly/code/2q2r1o3m152O Screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/172w0O2b321Y/o 2) I've heard a couple of opinions on the share-button and, as it sounds like the best solution to me, I say we do it like this: No icon, just text.
Talked with tbx via IRC, he approved the final design. The snippets have been entered into production and are ready for Winston to enable.
Launching now.
Hi all - The technology is done and the Flicks snippets are live. Looking back at this it should've been 2 separate bugs (Flicks snippet + New snippet technology) for sure. Also - For the creation of the new technology we should've asked for a webprod to oversee things. Well. Next time :) I will post sth about this to engagement@ in a bit, so everyone knows we got this great snippet video standard now. THANKS ALL for you work! Special thx to Mkelly. I think we can close this bug now. Tobi
