It onlt happens when subject and mail body is empty.
actually it happens to me when i forward or send out message with the body and header filled out but only after i use the address picker
it narrows down to forwarding and sending page, changing summary
Summary: Unable to send out a message after address picker is used → Unable to Send page/Forward message after address picker is used
Yes, when forwarding the msg, it doesn't send out if I don't change the subject or mail body at all. Once I set focus to subject or mail body, even w/o changing anything, I can send out. Same thing happens to a new mail compose, after using the address picker to fill out the To: field, if I don't do anything more to the window, I can't send out. But once I click on any field on the window, I can send out.
yes, i see that, i can click on the mail body and send the mail out ....but it is rather a workaround the bug.
reassign to varada. Seems to be a focus/command issue

Varada this sounds exactly like that bug where logging into a mail server prevented you from clicking on the mail toolbar until something in the window had focus. See http://bugscape.netscape.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3993 (sorry non-netscape people who can't see this) Varada do you think this needs to be reassigned to xptoolkit for focus issues?

this is something that we have seen before and saari had a fix for this then. It is certainly only the focus that is playing havoc here. Please do reassign to saari/toolkit

So what is unique about the address picker that it kills focus memory?
So I fixed focus memory in my tree, but this still doesn't work. It looks like the act of inserting an address kills focus in the parent message compose window. That isn't my problem, the focus memory issue is.
Someone from mail want to explain to me what the address picker does to insert the address in the parent window? Something about that process messes up focus, or more to the point, removes it from the address field that previously had it.
Okay, this appears to have gotten fixed by the recent focus changes. Yeay!

using builds: 2001062108 on win98, mac, linux. I still see that clicking on send button has no effect when address picker is used. The work around as mentioned earlier in the bug is that after clicking in the body it then works. Sorry reopening this bug because I still see this.

Type a subject, type a body, press address book button, proceed. That works for me. Were you trying to send a message without a subject and/or body?
So why is this a blocker? Who sends messages regularly without a body?
0.9.3 especially since I don't see how this affects the average use case

This scenario happens when you compose the mail first and then use the address picker. In that case after you used the address picker and clicked Send nothing is happening and the user wouldn't know that he has to click somewhere again to enable the Send operation.
those comments were intended for another similar bug, sorry about that. In this case you don't have to compose mail ( so it's not the case of having no body/header mail). This doesn't work in two particular cases : when you Send page or forward the message ( presumably with the body)
I just tried this again on Win2K and it worked fine. What platform is this not working on?
i am on Win2K as well and it is NOT working with 2001-07-24 build, using same steps to repro: go to bugzilla page|file| Send page|; get a message composition window ,click on the address picker; chose the recipient, Ok to dismiss address picker; get back to compose window; click Send: nothing happens unless you click somewhere on the widget ( using old profile)
Hrm, odd. If I compose from Send Page, I see the bug. If I just have mail open and wack the New Message button, it works fine. The key seems to be moving the cursor out of the address list, to the subject field for example, before hitting the address book button. That implies that inital focus for the compose window isn't quite right. That isn't too surprising, we've had trouble with that window before.

Just tried again on win2k, and it looks like this might be fixed. A focus change just went in that may have fixed a raft of bugs, so I have reason to believe it is really fixed. If you still see it with trunk, reopen with details.
