User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.2; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1
Build ID: 20120713134347
Steps to reproduce:
I opened eml file saved on my desktop. It was e-mail message with pictures attached. I opened print preview from the menu afterwards.
Actual results:
There were no pictures on the print preview, they were replaced by "white shattered sheet of paper" icons.
Expected results:
Pictures visible on the print preview. It's not only me who has this problem. https://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/thunderbird_doesnt_print_images_from_eml

Confirming
STR:
1) Open Testcase1.eml (from attachment 648684 [details]) with TB
2) File > Print Preview
Actual Result (TB14/winXP)
After 1)
- When viewing the msg, *remote* img (FF Logo) is missing (perhaps content policies, but allowing remote content for sender doesn't help either)
After 2)
- Print Preview of same msg: Surprise:
- previously broken remote image now shown (FF Logo)
- previously shown inline & attachment preview images now broken (TB & Sunbird Logos)
- Print: Same as Print Preview
Sad...
Expected result:
- If remote images are blocked because of content policy, show info bar to change that
- After unblocking remote images for sender, show all images correctly
- Print Preview/Print all images as shown in msg reader

If we would actually respect content policies for .eml files, which we don't (enabling remote contents for sender doesn't show images), then that part might be Bug 219250
> - previously shown inline & attachment preview images now broken (TB &
> Sunbird Logos)
That's the new part of this bug -> Confirming

adding dependency for ease of tracking, as explained in comment 3
Depends on: 219250

I was just bitten by the same problem, found this existing bug report that's been "NEW" for nearly 4 years, but not updated for 3 years.
Wanted to report that the problem continues to exist in Thunderbird version 38.6.0 (the latest as of 3/9/2016). At least, on Windows 7.
If I open a message that I have saved in a .eml file, then "Print" or "Print Preview", the printed message is missing all the embedded images.
Discovered that if I open the same .eml file, select "Edit as New Message", then "Print" or "Print Preview" of the new message correctly include the embedded images.

This appears to have been fixed in late February builds of Earlybird 46.0a2. I can see images in *.eml file message windows, print preview windows, and on printed output now. Ditto in 47.0a2, except that I didn't test printed output again.
I'm guessing this bug was addressed when the patch for bug 529735 was inexplicably accepted out of the blue a few weeks ago. If so, then this should also be fixed in Thunderbird 45. Maybe the guy from that bug, Kent James, can close this one as fixed too.

I tested this with an upcoming TB 45 build, and with a TB 47 (aurora) build. Neither worked, so I still have this issue.

As of Thunderbird 52.6.0 the problem still exists.
This problem is rather long in the tooth! Any chance
of getting it addressed?

I confirm that this problem exists also in Thunderbird 68.7 and also exists in TB 76.0b1...
Would be happy to help debugging the problem if someone instructs me what to do.

Please fix it ! It's really annoying bug.
I've found workaround (tb 68.6.0):
- open .eml file
- create new message and copy&paste all content from .eml
In effect both messages (oryginal .eml and new) can be printed with inline images.

I saw https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D116202 and therefore tested in TB 90.0b3: there the problem does not exist anymore.
