"OpenGL-accelerated layers are a hard requirement on this platform [...]" aborts suddenly HUGELY exploded in yesterday's data, mainly on 18.0 release and 19.0 beta, did we change something?

"OpenGL-accelerated layers are a hard requirement on this platform [...]" aborts suddenly HUGELY exploded in yesterday's data, across all branches, was that something from us (some blocklisting stuff maybe?) or an update shipped to a larger collection of devices (I've seen this across Samsung, HTC, and other devices when looking through a number of reports) that makes us fail to enable OpenGL layers?
I found it's cleaner to file bug 838603 for the spike than re-use this long-standing bug. Please follow up there.

The error still exists at a low volume but is no longer an abort. I filed bug 865795 for that.
