Unable to launch the browser on windows 98 with build dated (2001-05-01-06- Mtrunk). It displays with an error "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the program persists, contact the program vendor". It occurs on windows 98 only (2001-05-01-06-Mtrunk).

Thanks Tracy!
I've verified on windows 98 (2001-05-09-10-Mtrunk), however, this is a little different than the orginal that I found. When the installation is done, it launches it and asks you to creat a new profile or use the exist profile, it works fine with the exist profile. However, creating a new profile, the browser crashes with the following error: "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the program persists, contact the program vendor".
gbush should we reopen this or do u have another bug for this ?
Patty, What 'asks' you to create a new profile or use existing profile? Are you launching to Profile Manager? Also - did you change themes with existing profile? I am not seeing this on 5/9 early build - will try later build.

Grace, I was using the build (2001-05-09-10-Mtrunk) on windows 98, after the installation was done. It launched it and then with the dialog showed up and I created a new profile. Then it crashed with the following error: "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the program persists, contact the program vendor". If I did not creat a new profile, using the old profile, then it worked fine as normal, no crash. This is nothing to do with theme switching though.
Must be something between Win98 systems, I could not reproduce with later build either. On activation with new profile, however, I did not cancel- chose to activate and was able to get through I wonder if bug 4921 and bug 4922 in bugscape are what you are seeing?
Verified dup.
